  • Some Suburban TLC

    Ok guys, the process-

    Wash
    Clay with Quick Clay
    Scratch X whole car
    DC-2
    Nxt Tech Wax
    All Wheel Cleaner
    Tire Foam
    Nxt metal polish
    Exterior Trim Detailer

My partner and I did it all by hand, and we used hi-tec applicator pads.

    Some befores-

    And the afters-

    Interior

Sorry I forgot to take before interior pictures, just slipped my mind since we were staring at umm cough cough, quite a mess. Anyways, it took the two of us a little over 7 hours to do this, and we were thrilled with the results. And I must say, its easy to please us 14 year olds when we get paid after working. Any comments/suggestions welcome.

Great work there, especially on a car that size to be done by hand....

You ScratchX'd a Suburban by hand??? Did you have to get someone to type this post for you afterward, or do you have arms like Popeye to begin with? That's tiring just thinking about it.

But hey, the end result sure looks good!! Nice work.

Well I waited a week to type this up, just for that reason. My friend and I switched off doing the scratch x every door or panel. But even doing half a suburban with passion made it pretty hard to do anything the rest of the day! lol

I find that detailing Suburbans w/ a PC takes quite a bit of work....I couldn't imagine doing one by hand! Results look good BTW

As a teacher, I love to see young people get excited about achieving excellence in whatever they do. You put a lot of work into that Suburban and it turned out awesome!

Once again, as a teacher, I need to offer some tips:

I didn't see a list of products used for the interior, so here are my suggestions: I like to use the All Purpose Cleaner (APC) with a Megs interior brush on the leather (helps get the dirt out of the creases) but let the APC sit on the surface for 30 seconds or so before scrubbing so it can lift the dirt out. Then follow with the Gold Class Leather Clener/Conditioner applied and removed with a terry cloth.

The APC, or any Megs carpet cleaner would probably get most of that spot out fo the floor mat that I saw in a picture. If not, and the spot looks like tar, I've used a dab of Goo Gone to lift most of it out (just don't rub it all over the place, because that's worse!)

If you and your friend want to get done faster and make more money, INVEST in a Dual Action Polisher (aka PC, DA, G-100) and some pads so you can detail a Suburban in a fraction of the time and get better, more even results. Start off with the #80 Speed Glaze, and top with your favorite wax. Mike Phillips' video on how to use this machine is a VALUABLE tool and worth more than what he charges for it.

Now go share your excitement for your craft with your friends!

Looks pretty good, I couldn't imagine doing that thing by hand though. If you know you are going to be doing a lot of detailing, I would buy a G100 or a PC. Like said in the previous post, the results will be much more uniform and glossier than what can be achieved by hand, and it will save you on those big vehicle details. Good to see another 14 y/o that's caught the detailing bug, I now know I'm not the only one.

Looks good, also I don't know the condition of the raised white letters but brass wire brushes work miracles on white letters. It can make nasty brown letters like new.
