I received last week my dual action polisher (german model, similar to PC) and my meguiars pads and #80, #82 and #83.
The car was a Vauxhall/Opel Tigra Twintop roadster, 1 1/2 years old, always cleaned and detailed with Meguiars products. Paint was in good condition, only the dealer installed swirls and washing scratches destroyed the finish. Last reason to buy a expensive dual action polisher was, that I couldnt remove only 1 swirl or scratch on the paint by hand with scratchX - it was horrible.
It took me some time to test the buffer, test the different products etc. I got a lot of help here from the meguiars forum, especially from detailing genius Mike! Thanks a lot again.... xyxthumbs
Products used:
* NXT Shampoo
* Ultimate Wash Mitt
* WaterMagnet
* Quik Clay / Quik Detailer
* MF towels
* Buffer from FESTOOL, called Rotex FEQ 125 (like PC)
* #80, 82 and #83 (especially 80 and 83)
* Pads (8006/9006)
* California Body Duster (to remove the dust from buffing)
* NXT Tech Wax
* Super Terry
Short description of work:
After washing and claying, I started to work with the polisher. I started with the most non aggressive polish, # 82, but there was no changing in the paint, so I switched over to #80. Also only a small changing, so I tried several applications with 83 and *tatatata* the swirls whre buffed away! The worst areas on the car where the hood, roof and trunk - doors etc were in good condition so I used there only #80 with good results.
After I completed the work, it was time for a application of NXT Tech Wax (also with buffer on the most areas). The result was great, like always using NXT Tech Wax. In the sun I realized some small scratches in the paint - like told me here in forum and from other paint specialists, the paint must be really hard that I can not improve the result with my given products, but it was a great changing and the owner was happy.
I think it was not a bad start with the buffing machine, but I´m sure I can make some more improvement through learning by doing. I also realized some mistakes, e.g. using only one pad for the whole car, not a good pad cleaning from the beginning etc.... but no one is a born buffing-champion so I think I will have much more fun in the future.
Following some pictures... I was not able to take good before and after pictures, the first one shows the paint after cleaning and claying.

And now the results after all:
