  • 2005 Dodge Magnum Brilliant Black Pearl

Ok over the last few weeks I have been working some issues out on my cars paint. A few scratches ( used ScratchX with varing sucess ) and I picked up the DC #1 and #2 I had NXT Paste Wax also picked up a new Clay Kit.

So 3 weeks ago I start a bit later than I had wanted ( I can't work on cars in my Condo lot so I have to drive to my Bosses house to do my work ). Start off with a DC Wash, Full Clay Bar ( Re did some areas 3 times ), use Quick Detailer over whole car after finishing the Clay. Broke out the cleaner and went to work, next the polish and then the NXT. While doing this by hand I see a reduction in some of my issues ( light swirls, light scratches etc ) it brought 1 up that I had not reall seen before and that horrid water etching. The hood and roof are just ate up with it. The sides of the car are ok but not in great shape. Finish up about 10pm and head home car looks good for teh most part but needs more love.

This week I picked up the rest of the stuff i needed for my PC ( 9006, 8006x2, 7006 pads, Bonnets, #83, #80 ). Wash the car again, reclay some areas I know are prone to collecting **** in the paint and start to work with the #80 on the hood. Well after 3 passes in the rather small area working the product in as best I can ( I havent used a PC in ages ) all the fine stuff is gone and the etching is just laughing at me. So I break out another 8006 pad and start working in the #83 and its a tad better but not making a big dent in the etching. So I finish working the car with #83, then work with #80 then the DC #2, then NXT Wax.

Learned quite a bit as I worked the car, I use a bit too much product and my hands feel like they are dead.

Today was a wash and rewax day and here are the results.

    and the give away

I dont have much for before pictures of the finish, but its getting close to where I want it for the factory finish. If you zoom into the full sized image you can see the Factory Orange peel in the finish.

I have to admit I kind like the smell of the SC #2 polish

Thanks for looking ! If you have any suggestions I am always eager to hear better ideas or thoughts on what I am doing.

Excellent, Robert. You have a cool boss to let you work at his place. And a sucky apartment complex.

Have you read Mike Phillips post on page three of DA--Let it spin or stop it down? where he talks about the amount of downward pressure to use on the PC with different products?

I hadn't when I detailed my mom's ten month old '06 Satin Jade Pearl 300C for the first time two weeks ago. Wash, clay, 80, NXT Tech Wax. One of the mistakes I made was not using enough downforce on the PC (the other was not working the 80 long enough). Even so, it still turned out beautifully . . . the paint was in great shape to begin with.

PS: Nice choice of ride there.

Thanks RSA, I'll check out that link. I have been reading a lot of stuff here before getting started so I wouldn't butcher the paint.

I had read about a post where he talked about scale pressure and speeds, but I don't think it was that post.

I love my Magnum, I wish I could have waited 3 months for an SRT8 order to come in but I was in need of a ride right then so I got the RT and banked the extra $$ or mods

The Water etching is very deep, I was hoping I could manage it but I honestly didn't thing it would happen. I was even thinkingabout trying the 7006 pad and 83

Oh well live and learn, I am thinking about mooching a rotary buffer and praticing on my mother clapped out Buick

Thanks for the kind words guys.

                Beautiful car man!

Can I suggest a "next mod"?

That thing is SCREAMIN' for either some cross drilled rotors or a big brake kit. Oh man... it would finish the exterior!

                Love the car!

Nice looking Mag and an impressive mod list.

Are you using flush mount valve stems on your Nitrous'?

                      35th Anniversary SS,
I agree witht 20's the car is screaming for a BBK. BBK's are on the expensive side as far as mods goes for the LX cars ($4-6K range) and for a little less money one could purchase supercharger.

Thanks for all the kind words.

I couldn't have managed it with out all the great post here.

As to the mods I would love to throw on the 15" BBK from Stoptech but thats going to run close to the $6k mark and well I am putting my pennies away for a 440 SRT Crate Motor

As to the Foose, I am still waiting on some stems to get into stock. I have 3 shops looking for me, I wanted a set of the fluch mounts to act as plugs in general and not for filling the tires. I am hoping that someone comes through soon, I have an event and I woud like the tires to be balanced for the road trip. ( I have managed to throw a few weights )

Next time around I think I am going to give it a hit of #21 then NXT and see how it looks.

BuckeyeMCS - Nice shot and a great location !
