  • My new car!

After being fed up with the lousy transmission in my truck, I finally decided to trade it in. It was fun for a few months, but then it just got sloppier and sloppier and it started to grind in 5th gear. I learned to drive on a manual transmission so I knew it wasn't me, and after doing a little research I found out I wasn't the only one having the problem. Anyways, as you can see I at least kept it looking good!

Anyways, after doing a bit of research and speaking to a dealer, I finally settled on a 2006 Scion tC with 5sp. manual and I picked it up late Saturday night. I was able to land a Release Series 2.0, which makes it a limited model. There will only be 2600 tC's produced in this color/package. In addition to the color, it also includes a different wheel finish, Alcantara interior (a suede style microfiber product, supposed to be very stain resistant, and more expensive than leather), iPod capable head unit, XM ready, blah blah blah. I got good trade in value on the truck, so my payments are the same as they were before. Overall, I'm very happy with my new acquisition.

After 15 hours I finally cracked and gave it the full treatment:
    -Wash with #62
-Clay with Meguiar's Smooth Surface clay kit.
-Polish using Menzerna Final Polish II, because the dealer washed the car, despite me telling them numerous times not to do so.
    -Topped off with #21
    -Tires dressed with Hyper Dressing

I do NOT have any sort of love for blue vehicles, either. Both of these were 'accidents'. When I was looking for my truck, I was hoping for red. A local dealership said they had a red one on the way, but when it showed up it was blue, so I decided to get it anyways. When I went to the dealership for the car I wanted silver, but when I saw this color in person I loved it. Silver just looked so boring sitting next to it, plus blue would show off all my hard work put into detailing it better. The one on the lot was an auto, but they were able to get the manual out of an inventory lot that day.

I'm really enjoying the car, everything about it is great!

Anyways, just wanted to share my excitement!

so you messed up the tranny in that 04 or so Taco? man... but still nice new ride you got, I really like the power to weight ratio on those tc's or atleast the one I drove. Good luck with it and have even more fun detailing this one.

Its an '05. It was the first year that engine/tranny was available. If you do some researching, especially on www.customtacos.com you'll see that there are lots of complaints about the 6 speed manual transmission for the 4.0 motor in Tacomas. The tranny just isn't that great. I know guys who are on their THIRD transmission (all replaced by Toyota), so it just doesn't live up to the Toyota name.

glad to see that you made the switch. I would have never heard this from Toyota, I have heard of 40 year old trannys lasting long after the body and chassis have decayed. But this shocked me.

                Woo Hoo, cool new ride!

I like the blue, it’s a good lookin’ color, different enough to stand out in a crowd (but not flash enough to draw the attention of “ the man ).

When you goin’ to bring it down to a Wednesday wax night? (not tomorrow I hope, I can’t make it tomorrow…)

Congrats Kyle... I read over on customtacos that you were ditching the X, and it sounds like you had good reason to. Your TC looks sweet! Nice first detail too.

                    As for BlueTooth:

I have heard of 40 year old trannys lasting long after the body and chassis have decayed.
Toyota build quality these days can be incredible, or it can be botched. My Tacoma's V6 heads cracked after 130k miles. It *is* supercharged, but still... I've always driven Toyota trucks... got 240k out of my '82 truck. The vehicles these days are just more complicated... more electronics... more compression... more plastic... I'm sure you see where I'm going with this. 8-)

                      Thanks

I'll hopefully head out there soon. Hopefully I can get Allen (imacarnut) to come out with me.

Sorry to hear about your Xrunner.... they are good looking trucks. I test drove a Scion tc last week, my girlfriend it looking between a couple different cars Mazda 3, Acura RSX and the Scion tc.... the Scion seems like the best value of the 3 she is looking at.
