  • saving my friend's 200SX

My friend has a '99 black Nissan 200SX which she really liked and took good care of. Unfortunately, it fell into neglect in recent months, because of a bad job at a carwash, all the 2 1/2 hour commutes it need to do, and being parked outdoors all the time. She practically gave up on taking care of it.

I offered to wash and detail the car in hopes of restoring the black paint, and she took me up on it.

So here we are, spraying the car down, you can see how bad the paint has gotten by the way the water sits on the hood. You can see some light streaks, which showed up after the carwash.

We washed the car down with Gold Class to remove all the dirt and dust. You can see how hazy the paint has gotten.

After the wash, we pulled the car into the garage and clay the car and the windows. You can see how the clay looks after only working on a small 1'x1' section.

Didn't get any more progress shots, but after claying, I went over the car with DC#1 cleaner and #80 with a G-100 and removing with MF towels. Then NXT Tech Wax with G-100 and removing with terry cloth. We washed the windows with NXT glass cleaner. Tires were dressed with Hot Shine, and the exterior trim with Gold Class Trim Detailer. The inside was vacumned and wiped down with Quick Interior Detailer Wipes and NXT glass cleaner. I even polished the exhaust tips with NXT Metal Polysh. Here are the results.

Overall with my friend's help, it took us about 8 hours to complete. The pictures don't seem to do it justice because we didn't want to pull it out of the garage because it was very cloudy and threatened to rain. I'm not a professional, I just do this for fun, so I'm sure you pros and seasoned veterans can do a better job and much quicker. This was my first real "bring back from the dead" kind of job so I'm happy with the results. I also have a few questions, which I'll post seperately.

Well don't you love a clean and polished black car
I like pictures of daily drivers, they are the best because that is what most people have, not super expensive sports cars. Good job and start thinking your prices because in the future somebody will ask you How much for detailing my car?
