  • Well this is the before shot

If this Snow in April ends, and I get some decent temperatures, maybe some after shots will make it later this year.

Looking at a few orbital machines. The DeWalt 443 is powerfull yet noisey, the Bosch 1370DEVS looks like a sweet machine...anyone ever try that one out?

Actually anything in an orbital will sure beat the 8 hour days doing the job manual.

I don't know about the Bosch but I have the Dewalt. The Dewalt is good for applying wax but seems to not have the ability to remove defects in the paint that well. I went out and got a G100 from ADS and it works much better. Sense then the Dewalt just sits on the shelf and collects dust. I may try putting a 7006 pad and bonnet on it to remove wax, but will have to let you know how it works. The sad thing is I paid more for the Dewalt then I did for the G100. And the G100 works better.

I would suggest that you forget the orbital and get your self G100.

        ? Does that make sence?
Thought the G100 was an Orbital.

The G100 orbits and it turns (like a rotary) making it a dual action polisher

and LouE you can order a brand new PC DA from eshine for 170 starting today so get one quick

The Meguiars G100 polisher (essentially a rebadged and remarketed Porter Cable 7424) is a dual action polisher - the pad spins and also oscillates which causes a combined motion of random orbiting than closely mimicks the action of hand polishing, only much faster and with much more potential defect removal. An orbital just spins on a single axis - it has even more defect removal power, it'll cut more quickly and more aggressively than a DA but in inexperienced hands can cause severe paint damage.

I'd be really interested in how that Bosch 1370DEVS works out (if you go for it). I've always felt it had the potential to be an excellent machine for the job.

Be aware that it's rated as more powerful than the PC and much faster. I don't know how the orbital radius compares. I would recommend keeping it dialed down toward the lower end of the speed range.

Also be sure it's set in the random orbit mode rather than the forced orbit mode. The forced orbit mode is much more aggressive, sort of in between a RO/DA and a rotary.

I am thinking that a backing plate at 5" might be a bit better than a 6" getting around the curvy profile of the hood. That deal at eshine looks decent. Maybe I should save the 200 bucks and make due with a proven proformer the PC. Paint is new anyways and does not need aggressive cleanup.

did you mean a rotary in this sentence? or are there orbitals that arent dual action?

i think that there are orbitals that are not dual actions because they just orbit under load

                    this should help

The Dewalt rotary is a good machine, just a bit too heavy for my liking. The Makita 9227 and the Hitachi SPVA18 are lighter and more powerful machines and if you really want a lighter rotary the Metabo is the European import of the rotaries.

The deal at eshine.ca is a great deal for the PC at that price !

I found a review on the Bosch, it was from a woodworker though. He loved it and basically said it was the best tool he had ever used for sanding, less vibration, noise, good dust collection, balance, power, speed.

I know that putting the polish and wax down is a whole different ballgame compared to wood, but hey the porter started life as the same woodworking beast too.

The Bosch is more aggresive than the G-100, but less agro than a rotary. Maybe to be inbetween makes it **** at both though. Rotary rules for cutting and the G-100 for the finishing touches?

Thanks for the feedback in any case.

I think I read that same review. It makes the Bosch that much more intriguing. I already have a G100 so I’m not intrigued to the tune of $300. (I was hoping you would be. )

I always guessed the main reason nobody ever talks about it is that nobody’s ever heard of it let alone tried one. Bosch has zero market penetration in auto body and detailing in North America. I asked about the 1370DEVS at a woodworking show once. The Bosch reps all gave me that “deer in the headlights” look and said “huh?” They had to hunt down a guy who was like the western regional sales manager and he says “yeah, great tool. How’d you find out about it?” He managed to dig one up too but we couldn’t plug it in to play with it.
