Nissan Titan King Cab Custom Truck

What's a couple of car guys do on their day off? Buff out a car!

This Nissan Titan will be on display at the upcoming DUB show in Los Angeles on February 19th.

My friend and forum member Richard Linn aka OctaneGuy gave me a hand and it took us together about 12 hours from start to finish in less than perfect working conditions. (The poles for the floor lift made it difficult to work on some portions of the truck.

Just to note, the paint job was really thrashed with zillions of swirls and hundreds of thousands of tracers that we didn't all get out. It could be that this truck will be re-cleared in the future and then sanded and buffed out again using the Meguiar's system.

(The poles for the floor lift made it difficult to work on some portions of the truck plus we kept tripping over it. The owner of this shop is building a dedicated shop just for wet-sanding and buffing as he understands that it is the wet-sanding, cutting and buffing that make or break a great paint job.

The worst part of the buff-out was sanding marks to close to edges and body lines as it's very hard to buff these out as you risk heating the paint up and potentially burning through. I found 2-3 burn throughs before we even started.

Here's Richard using M80 Speed Glaze with the rotary buffer...

Later we applied the wax again using the G100 Dual Action Polisher.

Here are some more shots from this detail.

            BEFORE

            AFTER SHOTS-SAME DAY

            NEXT DAY
The Next Day I arrived around noon, and I was told they covered it up to keep the finish looking great, and that the owner had stopped by and his jaw had dropped. He had never seen his truck look so good. He said just standing far way he could see his reflection in the paint which he had never seen before. That was certainly a compliment.

The body shop environment is pretty dirty. Although this came off when the cover was removed, the whole car was covered in light dust before it was covered.

Check out the lack of cobwebs and the nice visible metallic flakes!

looks AWESOME. i wish i could contract you guys to come buff my show car out! even though I plan on doing it myself, it will never look that good.

it is hard to believe that somebdoy would spend that much time effort and money on a paint job but still have the paint look that horrid.

another great job mike and richard!

Thanks! The history of this truck is that it's been to car shows for several years, and it was back in the paint shop to have more clear applied. Since the owner had never seen it look so good before, I assume that since the day it was painted, these flaws existed!

                    As for contract?? We travel........LOL

As for the DA, once you get started with it, it is not that hard at all. You will be able to do some amazing things with it!!

                              Check it out...

The Titan Richard and I buffed out is on this month's cover of Truckin Magazine.

This truck was filled with sanding marks and wool pad and compound swirls when we got to it, we worked it over pretty good with our rotary buffers and the hit it with the dual action polisher.

                              It's on newsstands now...

Too bad we get no mention in the article. Sad thing about detailing, the detailer is the one who will make or break the painter's work yet the painter is the one who usually gets all the credit.
