My daughter sort of let me try to remove the scratchs from her Ipod Nano, I say 'sort of' because she wasn't home when I decided to try it....
This thing is only a month old and it's already scuffed up pretty bad:

I decided to start off being gentle and did some hand rubbing with #9 then I stepped up to some PlastiX, but neither of these did any good, the plastic on the face of this thing is hard as heck...

Here's what it looked like after the hand rubbing:

Since she was still not home, I decided to step it up a notch, ( it's what she would have wanted me to do anyway!) So out came my mini rotary and the ScratchX.. Before you ask, the mini rotary is just my Dremel and a cotton buff pad, yeah it's extreme, but like I said the face plate on it is really hard...

So who walks in while I am at the kitchen sink with her Ipod and a screaming Dremel? Hey she was happy with the final results so don't laugh at me...

I put some ScratchX on my finger and just kept adding a little bit at a time as I kept the cotton pad moving, I was really putting some pressure on the pad but I was vigilant about not letting it sit in one place so it wouldn't burn...

    How did it turn out???

Well not bad, you can see there's still allot of scratch's in it, but overall it's maybe 80% better than before...
And I even got a hug for my effort, I told her next time money would be better...

The Nano is looking good. Now with a little more time the nano can be as good as new. Did you polish the back of the nano?

Once the Nano is as new to help prevent future damage, your daughter should purchase a case and Power Support crytal film to help prevent scratches. The crystal film is cheap protection and is easier to replace than to repair the fragile surface or even replacing the Nano. The right case along with the film will protect the Nano from impacts, scratches and dust/dirt.

The back is metal and would have to be sanded... I didn't go there because it's engraved...

She has a case but hates to use it, I'll look into the crystal film, thanks for the tip...

I've sanded the back of my 3rd Gen Ipod, and you must get extremly fine paper to make it look descent. I started with 1200, then 2000, then 3000 grit, and then used some scratch-X followed by NXT Metal Polysh. It doesn't look new, but its looks better, I'll post pics later.
