  • My first post detailing a red cavalier

Hello I'm a new member and I have been reading the site for a little while. I'm 25 years old and I just finished Medicine. I like to keep my cars looking as good as possible but here in Monterrey Mexico there aren't many detailing places if any, sure there are car washes that offer detailng but they don't do good jobs. So a few years back I started searching in the internet and in the detailng forum of www.vwvortex.com (I own a 2000 jetta) I learned something, then I reached autopia.org and I learned some more, finally I discovered Meguiar's products . The border (Laredo, Texas) is usually 2-3 hours from here so I bought my products over there because they are cheaper. A bottle of Nxt tech wax costs here like $ 30 dls (320 pesos) so detailing with good products can get very expensive.

When I detail my car, my friends usually asks What wax did you use?. And then I tell them that is not that easy and try to educate them in the 5 step paint care system, but then I decided that the best way is to SHOW THEM, so I asked a friend for his 1997 Red cavalier.

    Behold the swirls.

First I washed the car with Nxt tech wash. Then I clayed with the mother's clay bar, only because I didn't find the quik detailing Kit in Pep boys in laredo and then I did whole car with scratch X.

    BEFORE SCRATCH X

    AFTER SCRATCH X

Then I decided to do some experimenting with the rearview side mirrors, They were dull and oxidized . This was the previous state. I taped a part of the mirror.

Then I applied scratch x and Deep crystal polish #2.

You can see the previous state in the triangular par of the mirror.

    Without the tape.

AFTER all the previous and a coat of Nxt tech wax. Now It's shiny and reflective.

Turned out great!! I really like how you did the taping of the mirror to show the difference with the before and the after.
