Well, just a teeny bit in water might not be as horible.. I was thinking it was mostly vinegar that was used.. still not great, but 1 capfull in an entire bucket may not be the worst thing ever. Could be part of why the car looked a little dull there at first, if it was done for many years with no care.

Chalky Water? I haven’t heard it said that way before but it makes sense. Chalk is made of calcium carbonate, which is one of the chemicals that make water “hard”.
I have no idea what vinegar in the wash water would do. I do use vinegar to remove hard water deposits from paint but that’s only if they’re dried on badly and then I follow it with a normal wash. Vinegar is a weak acid that dissolves hard (chalky) water deposits much more gently than some other acids.
Tell her that as long as she doesn’t allow water to dry on the car she shouldn’t have trouble with chalky spots. If she gets a Meguiar’s Water Magnet towel it will be easy.
