  • 1995 Kachina Boat

To start, I have been crazy busy with detailing and my "real" job. I finally found some time to catch up on some postings.

This boat belongs to a co-worker of mine. The 15 years of Arizona sun has sure taken its toll.

Here is the boat as it arrived to my house.

Here is a test spot I did the week before.

After a quick wash with Shampoo Plus I started up the Makita.

Then I removed as much trim as I could.

After 8 hours, I called it a day. Early the next morning, Don showed up to lend a hand. It was awesome working with him and I felt so appreciative to have his help. Thanks Don !

You can see another test spot I did in the middle of the pic.

    Remember This?

Don hit the interior with APC+ at 4:1 and a stiff brush.

So after 7 hours. Don left. After I said goodbye to my wife as she left for work that night I spent another hour finishing up the interior.

Bright and early the next day Don started by vacuuming out the interior.

We also hit some spots by hand that the buffer couldnt reach.

I then hit the rear steps with APC+ 4:1 and a polishing pad. This worked great by the way.

Like I said, 15 years in the Az sun faded these pretty badly.

We treated all vinyl with M40.

And finally here are some afters.
This project had a total of 36 man hours over three days.

    Thanks for looking.
The owner was thrilled. Thanks again Don

It was a pleasure Bob. Glad to hear the owner was thrilled. I'd work on any project with you again. It really made it enjoyable. Sure was a challenge too...

Excellent work guys! The boat looks awesome!

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

      I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
      Remove swirls my friends.

I just got news a week after I delivered it, His son was out on the lake and blew up the motor. Nice huh.

Seriously, the three days prior to the job the temp was like 90-95. The three days we had it were 109-112 then three days after were back down to 92-98. WTF ? Gotta love AZ! Thanks!

OMG. What a shame. It had to have been because of how slippery and slick it was after our detail.

Hey Rthario, Mike and I just completed our first boat. I'm curious as to the combos you used on this Kachina. Looked like you used Rotary and a foam cutting pad in the pics - what compound did you use?

                Thanks, Jeff

Jeff, we used M67 One Step Compound then topped with Flagship Premium Marine Wax.
