  • 1959 Chevy Truck Detail

I was hired by Palmer's Customs to remove the fine swirls from the paint of this truck so they could deliver it to the customer. They were having trouble achieving a swirl-free finish, they told me to "see what you can do."

    Tools used:
    My new G110v2

    buffers

    oh wow, nice shirt!

Trying to figure out what the paint is going to respond to...very soft clear!!

My first step ended up being #105 w/ 9207pad. I know, weird huh...

    After just #105 w/ #9207 pad:

Lead, follow, or get out of the way.

Sounds like the clear was as strange as the clear on the Superformance Cobra we did a few months ago. Every now and then an approach outside the norm is what it takes to get the job done - and what keeps this game so interesting!

      Very nicely done.

That was a different process. Thanks for posting the first half of the thread.

There's something else I'll have to try on my super-soft Harley black finish. I tried Nick Chapman's unconventional method of a yellow LC pad in order to get 205 to finish without micromarring on that black Colorado. Close but no cigar for my application.

                    What did you finish with?

                    Nice work!

I was hoping no one would ask ...I had to finish it with p106f from Menzerna. I absolutely love #205 but the clear on that truck didn't. My LSP was 2 coats of #21.

For very delicate paint you may want to dry M205 on a W9207 black foam finishing pad via rotary at slow to moderate speeds. We've done a few black Cobra replicas for Superformance and the paint on these things is crazy soft. A yellow pad on a D/A with almost any liquid will haze the surface. We just did another over the weekend and all it needed was M205 with the W9207, whether D/A or rotary applied. This particular paint seemed to prefer the action of the rotary, light pressure only, and about 1500 rpms. With this liquid/pad combo it came out beautiful. One coat of M81 Hand Polish and a coat of M26 and we were done.
