  • The unexpected detail!

    Hey guys!!

Here are the pics as the result of a rude wake up on Saturday morning.

    Full story here: http://www.meguiarsonline.com/forums...ad.php?t=38800

Saturday evening I was able to scrape most of the more concentrated areas of paint using water and a laminated card...all I had to work with at the time and it swirled my paint up something fierce!
On Monday I was finally able to correct the affected areas with was pretty much everywhere behind the front quarter panel.

After washing I hit the paint with some mild clay which effectively took out the remaining paint and overspray. Next up was using UC on a yellow polishing pad, just one pass and I was able to knock out the swirls and the few RIDS that I installed. I was taken back at how well the paint responded to the UC. When I applied it the first time with the G110, it took 2 to 3 passes to get it where it is now (the swirls looked to be the same consistency with both details).
I did go over the areas next to the trim by hand to rid the RIDS around the painted trim....I wasn't very gentle in trying to get the paint off the trim.
I finished her off with 1 coat of M26 using the black finishing pad and now i with the exception of the trim, you wouldn't know that there was spray paint there a few days ago.

Now onto the pics, the usual before during and afters!

I apologize that the pics are a little blurry, my camara is still out of commission!

Hopefully, Ill be able to knock out the trim this weekend, Thanks to Mister B for giving me the heads up on graffitti remover!
    Thanks for looking!!

I've never tried it, but I hope it works for you.

Good to see the rest of the car has cleaned up nice.

        Thanks guys!

Executionerhk, Thank you! It's actually my wives Focus, I drive a Saturn but since the birth of my daughter, I've inherited this car. Nope not on FF, what is it?

Mister B, I was actually shocked at how well she cleaned up....of course the trim had to give me problems....LOL.

Ohh and any Mods out there, if you can re size the top two pics, they were larger then what I thought they would be. Thanks!

Glad everything worked out for you. It was a shame some idiots did that to your car.

FF is Focus Forum. It is a forum that is focused (no pun intended) on the Ford Focus. Glad to see you were able to get cleaned up!

                  Re: The unexpected detail!

Nice job man! As for the trim, have you tried some solvent? I would try it out, of course putting 2 or 3 layers of tape around it to protect the cc.
I think due to the surface type it bonded a lot faster than it did with the rest of the car... and of course I believe the regular maintenance and care you give to your car helped with not letting the paint to completely ruin it!

Very good turn around. If you ever find the stupid people who did this, send them my "regards"

                        Re: The unexpected detail!

brother I am glad you got it worked out.

Almost the same thing happened to my friend about 3 weeks ago. He was getting home late at night and some idiot left a couple of spray paint cans in the middle of the street, this is one of those college type of neighborhoods with lots of crazy kids, by accident he drove over the can. His car looked exactly like yours, the paint was gray and the car is white!!!. He was really desperate and tried everything he could with no success. He gave me a call the next day.

I used scratch x with a yellow polishing pad and my g110, the paint came off with no problems, the pad was trashed though. I also used scratch x on the glass by hand. Some Megs trim detailer on the plastic and the car looked like new again, the plastic only got a couple of spots though. Free of charge he is a close friend.

                            Re: The unexpected detail!

Thanks everyone for the great comments!!!

Yeah it really is a shame for some people who have no respect for other folks property! My neighborhood is one of the only ones left that isn't crime ridden and in the 7 years that we've lived here it is starting to go down hill.
This isn't the first time though, when I had my Plymouth Reliant K a couple years back, the back passenger window was busted out by a group of wanna be thugs, I guess they weren't expecting a half dressed vet to come tearing out of a house with a bat in hand!!! It's not too often that I see someone run as fast as they did.....and I'm glad they did!
We've also lost 6 side view mirrors, not once did someone stop and make any type of effort to contact us.

Luckily we were spared from the "acid vandal". This guy squirted paint thinner or some other type of chemical on cars throughout the city before being spotted. In all he tagged over 400 vehicles with damages past 500K!! You still see cars today driving around with paint missing from the body...so sad.

hopefully we'll be out of here before my daughter starts school, I love living in the city but this is not the same place I grew up in.

This weekend I'm gonna try to knock out the trim and the back end. As long as the weather is nice at least. I'm still amazed at how well the paint came off the car. I guess when you have a well prepped and waxed surface, spray paint has a hard time sticking?

Again thank you to everyone here on this forum. if I never found this place I don't know how my car would've look.....definitely not as good as it does now!!
