My in-laws decided it was time to sell the old '91 Mercury Sable POS. They live down a dirt road and as far as we know, this car has never been washed or vacuumed!
I really wanted to see what I could do with this car, so the challenge was on!

We started off by pressure washing it twice using the 3 bucket method.
After claying with the Smooth Surface Clay Kit, the white paint looked like chalk! Absolutely no reflection:

The interior needed a *lot* of help

....as did the engine:

The headlight panel was that nasty yellow:

Testing revealed that the best way to remove the oxidation on the paint was M105 on a Solo Maroon pad @ 2000 RPM on the rotary:

To restore the headlights and tailights, I wetsanded with Meg's Unigrit 1500/2000/2500 then polished with the PC using a 4" LC white pad and M105 @ speed 6/5 (KBM) followed by PlastX on a 4" LC green pad @ speed 5/4 (KBM). Can you tell which half has been polished?

To degrease and clean the engine, I used APC mixed @ 4:1 for the initial washing and degreasing, then 10:1 for subsequent treatments. It took 3 passes to get it clean!
Before:

After - dressed with No Touch Tire Care:

Some befores and afters:

Kerri de-gunkified the interior:

The carpet was shop-vac'd 3 or 4 times to get the sand out. The carpet brush for the PC made a HUGE difference! It 'popped' the sand out of the carpet and made it easy to remove the embedded sand. After vacuuming the carpet was treated with APC 10:1 and worked in with the PC carpet brush. Finally, the LGM was used to extract:

The paint was refined with D151 on a 5.5" LC Green pad on the PC @ 5/4 (Kevin Brown Method).

Total time spent: too tired to count
Needless to say I am *sorely* missing Mike!
