  • 20 year old Audi Quattro SWB (UK)

Been a member on here for some time, I’m a full time detailer that covers the whole of the UK,

I know Joe from Superior Shine as we share the same company name (mine ends with co.uk not .com)

I never seem to have the time to post, but thought you guys might like to see my latest detail as it’s a bit special

    So to the car
Audi Quattro SWB (Original UK Press Car) which still belongs to Audi Sport UK

The engine was shot, however the current custodian of the car has rebuilt the engine from the ground up, replacing every nut and bolt with genuine VAG stuff.

However the exterior and interior where looking very tired with over 20 years of grime and several hundred press drivers through it.

It was actually used in the below TV show a few years ago before the engine gave up, the current custodian told me when it was delivered he was amazed it made it round the track at all.

The body work is manly Kevlar and you can see the weave in the finish which is nice,

Paint wise it was not to bad as it has always been garaged and wrapped up in cotton wool, I will stop talking and let the pics do the rest.

    When i arrived

    dash cleaning

Inside done (yes it's all 20 years old)

    where it sleeps at night

    Swirls

    Holograms

So thats about 30 hours in on the paint,
now onto the seats, i had to take these away with me.
Audi Sport UK said "see what you can do, we don't think they will clean up good enough. We might have to get Recaro to make us some new ones"

To say they are happy with them is an under statement.
7 hours on the drivers seat
    5 on the passengers seat
3 hours on the door cards
3 hours on the rear bench

Are you ready for the seats (and yes this is the only way they would clean we tried every thing)

    half done

One done one to go, then they all had leather cleaner worked in

I will get more pics up when the car is finished (still loads to do)

All comments welcome (good or bad

    Dave

So far it looks great. Can not believe the difference in the seats. 20 years of grime removed.

Wow. Nice job! What did you use to clean the interior?

Wow! Nice turn around on the car, but the work on those seats is awesome. i actually thought it was a different color of leather until you cleaned that spot!

              Nice work mate!

              Very cool car BTW

Great comparison shots! I thought the seats were brownish in color, but *wow* results from the test spot(s) were awesome.

                  Indeed good work mate.

Wow guys thanks for all the positive feedback, if I had posted this on a uk forum I would get told “what’s the point? it’s an old car” or “you missed a bit”

                          So thanks again,

Sorry for the time delay in the response, we do live round the other side of the planet from each other

Well first I tried gold class leather cleaner, and got no joy so stepped it up to Gliptone leather cleaner…….nothing, so a last ditch attempt I tried APC 4:1 on a pad……we have lift off, but not enough so I tried it with a brush to work it into the grain, even better results, but I found if I used a smaller brush and used very little pressure (as you can see in the pic of me using the toothbrush) the results where awesome.

You get tempted to press hard with the brush, but the fibres of the brush bend and they skip over the surface, so little pressure working in circles gives better results as the tip of each fibre gets into the grain

Caution! APC is not best on Leather and even worse if you use it neat like I had to on the drivers seat, as it dulls the leather to a matt finish, Gold class rich leather cleaner conditioner came to the rescue. On the first app the leather sucked it up like a sponge so two more coats where then added, then they where buffed to a high gloss with lots of micro fibres

Sounds strange but I think the chemicals in the APC tightened the leather, which has made them look loads better.

                          Dave

Edit, thought I would put up some pics of recent work (we all like shiny cars don't we)

Good Lord, Dave!! It appears you're quite the man in the UK. All those magazine shots!! Absolutely beautiful work. You're photography skills are amazing, too.
