Decided my daily driver needed some love, and it was over due, so I decided to wet sand and polish (I hate orange peel). The paint thickness gauge had readings of anywhere from 134 to 398 before the process.
The process:
-washed/dried car
-tape off all lights and plastics
-sanded entire car with 2500 paper in 2 directions, 2000 paper was used in areas with heavy orange peel and scratches.
-removed tape
-washed/dried car again
-taped off all cracks/plastics/and such again
-compounded with Meguiar's M105 on rotary with a polishing pad in the following manner:
-spread compound at 600 rpm's
-started working with 1200 rpm's with light to medium pressure
-lightly misted compound with water spray (out of a spray bottle)
-finished working compound in with 1600 rpms
-polished with Meguiar's M205 on a rotary with a polishing pad
-spread at 500 rpm's
-polished at 1500 rpm's with light to medium pressure
-burnished at 800 rpm's
-removed tape
-washed/dried car again
-protected with a coat of Meguiar's #20 sealant (let cure for 8 hours)
-followed by 2 coats of Migliore Competizione blend wax (waiting 4 hours to cure between coats)
total work was about 30 hours

Wet sanding process:

my main reasoning for doing this was to remove the orange peel on my front and rear fenders.... the light sanding removed about 75% of the orange peel which I was very happy with. The clear coat is too thin for me to safely sand again, but not thin enough where it does not protection:

the clarity of the paint is much cleaner now and the shine is incredible!
