Ok, so after making many mistakes since I came here to this forum (didn't read the forum rules eager enough) I would like to contribute one of my latest work on a Golf3 from my friend and neighbour "Enzo".
He bought this car 5 month ago. This Golf is about 13 years old with 90.000km on its back. Its paint ued to be blue (dark blue once). Now it was some kind of a dull light blue.
So we decided to start a heavy detailing weekend on may the 15th. I completed work in the office a bit earlier and met Enzo an 3 p.m at my garage.
I wanted to teach him the secrets of a hand wash so I asked him, how he washed his cars in the past. The stunning answer was: "Never washed my cars!"
Ok, by doing nothing at all, he didnt wash the wrong way I thought. He was like plain paper: let's write on it!
We loaded the Golf with all the good things, my detailing boxes were offering:
APC, Last Touch, Sheepskin Wash Mitt, MFT sponge, 2 Buckets, 1 Grit Guard, EZ Brush, Megs Wash Gel, Cobra Guzzler M and some MFT to do the final drying.
Before that I took sseveral pictures of the "subject":

You can judge for yourself... This paint was dull!
So we washed him with the two bucket method, before we precleaned it with high pressure water. We soaked him in WashGel from top to bottom and rinsed it again with water. After that we sprayed Last Touch on the wet finish to avoid water marks, but this I did only to show Enzo how to wash a car under normal conditions. Because we would clean the Golf in the polishing process several times with Detailer this Last Touch to help us dry it wasnt really necessary at this point.
We rolled his ride back to my garage and started to clay the entire vehicle.
Enzo was VERY impressed bythe claying process... (here: from sanding grid feeling to baby skin smootheness!)
Before the claying I took these pictures:

Swirls...

and more swirls... together with their good friends: the random deep scratches...

barely reflections to see...

One of my favourite pics...

A Paint finish I ever dreamed of...

Bvore waking up screaming in soaked sheets!!!

My little daughter was "not amused" whe she saw that I impounded her Play doh Pot...

After claying it was well after 7:30 p.m. so we decided to continue the next day ...
Saturday morning we started in earnest!...
I told Enzo bweeks before, we wold be able to give his old ride a "new car finish" back.... Sawing this mess of a paint finish I cursed my loudmouth...
I fought the bad feelings in my guts and prepared the test spot... Having no Ultimate compound or #105 at hand I was praying to the holy Detailinus and hoped that my #84, #83, #80 and #82 would save my day...
The spot was ready and with trembling hands I loaded my noname rotary with an orange waffle pad from elite and #83 from Meguiars....
and the... something wonderful happened!

After one pass with the above combo it looked really nice! The #83 was biting thru the swirled, hard VAG paint. That was more I hoped for!
To compare: "evil" side:

The already polished side:

Once again a reminder how bad the finish was:

The complete bonnet, unfortunately sprayed with rock chips...

I was very surprised how well the #83 worked on a hard VAG paint, I once again fell in love with the #83... She was really working the paint!
We done the whole bonnet with orange pad+ #83 and after that we polished with black noname pads and the #80 on the excenter.
By this time Enzo was bouncing up an down and cheering at the good result... nearly "new car look"...

The #80 was really giving the paint a deep and rich blue finish, we loved it!...
Rhapsody in blue...

It was near lunch time... we rolled the Golf out of the garage to have more space to do the taping... It was wonderful sunshine so working was easy......

After the taping was done, we started the real thing:
I was taking the lead with orange pad+#83. Enzo was following with black pad + #80 on the excenter.
We sweared, we sweat but we didnt cry
I thought we wouldn't make it til the dawn of the day.... but at 7:30 pm we had the golf ready for its first portion of NXT Tech Wax 1.0!
I was planning to put on two layers of NXt Tech followed by one layer of #16. And the blue paint was coming out well!
After the first layer of NXT we would like o give the Wax a curing time overnight so after applying the first layer we called it a day and Enzo was leaving for his home...
to be continued...
