  • 1966 MZ Trophy Gas Tank

A friend of mine has a small collection of old motorcycles and has asked me if I could help him out with their restoration. The first piece I did was a gas tank of a 1966 MZ Trophy (MZ was an East German company, quite renown in our region ). The objective was rather simple - bring back the shine. On the paint I used ScratchX (up to 4 applications) followed by NXT 1.0 followed by DC3. The plastic bits had some Natural Shine and the tank lid was treated with Mag and Aluminium Polish.

Here are a few 50/50 shots:

Here is a "before" of the lid:

    This is the lid "after":

And these are a couple of "after" shots:

You can see that the tank itself is quite banged up (if that's a good expression) but my friend decided he would like to keep the original paint and original looks of the tank rather than having it repaired and repainted. And I think it is a good approach. Thank you for watching.

    Great job!
It has some deep scratches but doing that with Scratchx you did get great results!!!

I agree with his approach. Keep it as original as possible. There was a huge improvement using the scratch-x. Great work.

Great job, good to keep it original as long as you can.

Definately sparked some life back in her.

My friend has sent me some photos of the completed bike. I'd like to share them with you. So, here it is - a 1962 classic.
