1990 Calloway Corvette - Extreme Makeover

Here's some pictures of an upcoming extreme makeover. It's a 1990 Twin Turbo Charger Calloway Corvette.

Interesting note is how pictures on the web can be used to make a car with a horrible finish look pretty good. Take for example, the below three pictures. I took all the pictures of this car on this day using my trusty Sony Mavica FD97 digital camera. None of these pictures have been monkied with in any way except for cropping and resizing before uploading.

In the above three photo's, the finish looks pretty good as you would expect of a Calloway Corvette.

Below is how the finish really looks,

The finish is in fact dull and hazy looking as the finish is instilled with hundreds of thousands of swils.

We will be attempting to remove the swirls, and restore a finish worth of a Calloway Corvette sometime in the near future.

    Stay tuned...

Oh man.... Red, aerobody, dymags....... Wow do I love Callaway Corvettes!!! (I could do without the bra, though)

I can't wait to see your work on it (and more picts in general). You should snap one of under the hood. The turbo/intercooler plumbing is really beautiful!

      Oh, and Mike, it's Callaway!

I have the guys contact information, I met him last year at the Plastic Fantastic, while I was down there doing a before and after on a black Corvette.

I am concerned that if we restore a flawless finish to his car, he won't take care of it. I mean, look at it, how did it get this way to start with?

Most of the time everyone focuses on evaluating the condition of the finish, I think it's also very important to evaluate the customer also.

You bring up a good point Mike. Hopefully the owner is not set in his ways and can learn the correct way to maintain his car. I did. That knowledge I gained through the extreme makeovers and this forum. Two years ago I was still washing cars with a mitt from the Regan administration, using dawn, and finishing off with a few beach towels.
Hopefully there is hope for that old Vette.

Take off the bra and 'accidentally' lose it. Unless of course, it is so bad under there that even you couldn't restore it(not likely) then definitely keep it on.

It's a shame after turning your labor of love back to your client (or friend in my case) and the first thing he asked me was, "How can I keep it looking like this." I suggested buying a duster, which he said he had one. Some Quick Detailer and Micro Fiber towels and use them often.

So far he hasn't taken my advice and it looks like in a short period of time it will look like it used to.

It's hard for me to understand why people will ask how, but won't take the time, after they know how.

It's in San Diego. I have the owners name and phone number. It's been about a year since I spoke with him, I could call him and ask him if he still has it.

I just wanted to see some more pictures of it. Callaways are so cool!

Also, remember it's been neglected for 15 years. So maybe it won't be until 2020 that it looks all swirled again.

I think I posted the only pictures I took that day, or at least the only pictures that were worth posting. I will call the owner and see if he still owns the car and if it still looks like it did that day.
