  • Man, what a car, the XLR !!!

I had the honor of detailing a friends black Cadillac XLR today...he's about 2 1/2 hours from me so the day started early for me...He's a busy guy and doesn't have much time to spend making this beautiful piece of automotive engineering look it's best..So, he called on me to help him get her back in shape. The BIGGEST issue was the front of the vehicle where there were hundreds of dried on bugs...the car travels on the Canadian highway (at high speeds!) and this time of year is brutal for bugs....The convertible top is perhaps the most amazing part of this car and the part that made it a challenge...if I knew how to post a video clip to the net, I'd show you how the top goes up....amazing....anyway, here's the process and the befores and afters:

FIRST A PICTURE OF A SUNFLOWER FIELD I DROVE BY ON THE WAY UP....IT WAS BEAUTIFUL!!!

    1. Wash with GC Car Wash using Mequiars mitt using two buckets
    2. Cleaned wheels with Hot Rims All Wheel Cleaner and the Ultra Safe Wheel Spoke brush. These two products together are unbeatable at cleaning rims.
    3. Dry using Water Magnets.
    4. pulled in garage and started working on Front end where bugs were... Had removed most of the bug bodies during the washing phase with a bug sponge and some bug and tar remover so I proceeded to claying the vehicle which took over an hour.

Interesting side note, the clay I had brought with me had gone bad, started to basically melt in my hand when I started claying because I think it go too wet in the bag I had it in. So we ran to Candian Tire to find some clay. The only thing they had was the old Quik Clay system....for $22.99 plus 3.32 TAX ...How do you Canadians do it ???

    4. After Claying went right to #80 using the PC and an 8006 pad on setting #5..Wiped off with Ultimate Wipes
    5. Used PlastX on Headlamps and Tail lamps.
    6. Used NXT Metal Polish on the rims and chome exhaust tips.
    7. Applied NXT Tech Wax Paste using the PC and a 9006 pad. Let sit for a good half hour. Removed with a MF bonnet over a 7006 pad using the PC.
    8. Applied Hyper Dressing to wheel wells
    9. Endurance Gel applied to Tires using Eagle One tire swipe
    10. Leather surfaces cleaned with GC Leather Cleaner/Conditioner.
    11. Vinyl surfaces cleaned with Megs Vinyl Cleaner
    12. Glass surfaces cleaned with NXT Glass Cleaner.

All in all, about 7 hours....and it was a lot of fun....

Joe is that XLR in Downey? I swear I see one that same color all the time in Downey and it always looks aboslutely GORGEOUS. Had always wondered who did the detailing on it, never occured to me that it may be you.
      I want 4" Softbuff pads!

                  Real nice...

I just sold my first unborn to purchase some products...
                  (just kidding)

                  Example of prices:
                  Back plate: $43.81
                  Cut pad : $31.98
                  Polish pad: $33.81
                  Finish pad: $33.81
                  m80(32 oz): $ 25.67
                  Tape 6mm : $5.11
                  Tape 12mm : $4.29
                  Tape 18mm : $2.12 (on sale)

                  Taxes total $25.20

                  Grand total $ 205.80

I'm probably going to get a second job just to pay for the supplies...but then I won't have any time left over to detail

and to top it all off no microfibres, no wash mitts, no absorbers,
no bonnets... (Napa rep. - Our warehouse doesn't have any of these)

I'll have to try to get them from Meguiars Canada directly ... ( I hope thier new web site in August will have an online store !

                  Again Nice job!
