  • VW Golf MK 1 GTI

Couple of months ago I bought a '83 Golf MK 1 with an 1.8L GTI engine installed (112 bp ). I purchased the car as a project, so I'm doing everything step by step.. The car needs a lot of repairing (rust in particular) but the engine runs nice.
The car's finish was horrible, a lot of oxidation..... I was wundering whether I was able to remove the oxidation and get the finish back to gloss.

    Here's some before's:

I am still polishing the car since I do not have a lot of time, but I was able to make some shots today.
    My proces was:
    85 with 7006 - rotary
    83 with 8006 - rotary
    80 with 8006 - pc

You can still see some oxidation deep inside the paint, anybody suggestion how to tackle this? personally I think the paint is already pretty dead...

Again, on the right bottom some oxidation left...

This is it for just about now, will keep you updated when making progress!

It really is the same car I have spend a lot of hours polishing the panels. At first I just did it with the pc, then later on got my rotary and repolished it. I am still working on the car, but it is making progress.... I've had a crush on these cars since I was 15 (now 20) and therefor would like to have it back into a good condition where it can be seen in public.
In the near future I am planning some 8 x 14 wheels (german look) and some nice low coilovers.... but the paint first

Let`s put it this way:i`m not impressed by the result.I`m impressed by the work that is done on the car.

When a red car is white of oxidation it`s easy to make it red again, but it`s a massive pease of work

Well done, and keep up the good work and you will get a good looking car

Really awesome results. Working on red is not easy, great job!
Do you get some parts for your Golf from Germany? Or do you have enough of them in Holland?
btw: too bad you lost the soccer match yesterday

There is quite a lot of stuff still here for MK 1's.. only german style wheels are not that common. As I said i'm looking for oldskool wheels 8 * 14, that's a bit difficult. But besides that we can pretty much get everything here as well.

at least the game was entertaining enough with all the yellows and reds
