  • Mother's Day gift

Well, I've been wanting to take a shot at detailing my mom's car for a while now, so today was the perfect excuse. It's a 1995 Honda Civic that's had its paint beaten to death in automatic car washes and I think it's only been waxed once back in 96. The swirl marks and scratches were so bad, it gave the paint a "haze".

Here are two pics after a complete scrub down.

Unfortunately, I couldn't get identical "after" pics, because she lives in a valley and the sun went down.

    Here are the steps:

    1) Washed with Meguiars car wash concentrate (this pink gel I have from a while back) and dried.
    2) Meguiars Swirl remover 2.0 applied with random orbital buffer
    3) Meguiars ScratchX applied as needed to areas with deeper scratches (then another pass of the 2.0 over top of that).
    4) Meguiars Deep Crystal Polish, also applied with random orbital buffer (with fresh pad)
    5) Meguiars NXT tech wax, applied by hand.
    6) Meguiars high gloss tire spray.

In fact I think the only non-Meguiars product was the water

    And the results:

Needless to say, mom was pleased with the results.

I am detailing my mom's car for mothers day as well! However, it is going to have to wait until later in the week.

Looks like it turned out awesome!

What type of buffer did you use and is there any possibility of getting another close up shot of where the swirls were a different day?

Sorry for the delayed response. Was dealing with a 101 fever the past few days.

The buffer was a cheapie - a Vector Wax Pro random orbital, bought at Pep Boys for $14.99.

              I'll try to get a close-up shot next time I'm at mom's.

No wax since 96!!! That goes to show you how good paint is now days.

Why did you block out the license plate numbers?

                Nice job.

Why did you block out the license plate numbers?
Force of habit I guess. In Maryland (where I live) if you take a license plate to the MVA, they'll tell you the name and address of the person who owns the car. Maybe I'm too paranoid :p

Was that all by hand or by a buffer?

Those are great before and after pictures, I might like to borrow those cobweb shots if you don't mind.
