  • M105 on Powdercoating

    Disclaimer: *No pics*

I made the "mistake" of washing the car yesterday afternoon when I got home early from school. I hadn't hand washed it in about 3 weeks. Something got on the gloss black powdercoated wheels during that time. I have no idea what it was, but it fully baked on them. It made them appear dull, gray-ish, spotted (there were miniature spots of whatever it was completely and thoroughly covering the surface) and just overall rough feeling. The predicament became what to use to get this junk off!

    SwirlX? Didn't touch it...
Ultimate Compound? It apparently separated, somehow, so no...
    M105? Yessir!

I used M105 on a PowerBall, followed by M105 on a foam applicator pad for the tight places the PowerBall couldn't get to. It was shady and getting dark when I was done, but they appeared to be much clearer with most of whatever was on them, gone. I will take a peek at them in a bit, in sunlight, when the car gets home.

Just thought I'd pass this along as powdercoating is generally very difficult to work with.

Powder can be a real pain to work with. I had a client tell me his $120,000 buggy was painted - swore by it actually - only to find virtually nothing was working quite right.

I called the manufacturer - yup - powder coat.

I eventually polished it to perfection, woowee it was sweet, but man it was a lot of work!

Quite crazy stuff to work with...

The wheels look like new again though!
