  • Is the Meguiar's Sanding Block (Squeegee) Made of Foam?

Is Meg's sanding block made of foam?

Or is it made of rubber?

It is a thin dense foam, with kind of a rubberized outside.

As Murr1525 said, dense foam. However, to clarify, it is the same material throughout.

It is not a two-stage material. Same inside as outside.

Hmm.. thought my top/bottom felt different. Maybe not, been a few months since I had it out.

Anyone know what can be used if i can't find any?

The only ones i find are the large arched rubber ones(3M..i think),but they are too heavy and rigid.okay on a flat panel.

One thing i found was in a supermarket. An oversized kiddies eraser. It's about 5" long and 2" wide. It's quite flexible. havn't tried it yet.

If your removing dirt nibs soft is the best
If your removing peel flat and flexible

You could wrap a pine furring strip say 6" long with foam carpet padding.
            should be cheep enough.

Cut up an old flip flop

              Thanks!

I think the old flip flop sounds good. I've got an old pair. So I'll do just that.

Thank you fellas for answering my question.

The reason I asked was that I bought a Motor Guard Sanding Block that has the same dimension as the 3M and Meguiar's Sanding Blocks. The Motor Guard unit is unique in that there are two sides, the harder side for for color sanding, the other softer side for clear coat. The Motor Guard one cost me $7 each, kind of expensive.

Flip flop sounds good indeed. Never thought of it.

Paint is paint. There shouldnt need to be different sides.

If your removing defects from a finish that has the same amount texture/orange peel as the adjacent panel using a softer backing pad allows you to keep the repair to a min so you don't have spots that really flat and others with texture/ peel.

Your right they do feel a little diff. but I think that is from the printing process. If heat is used to print the name and part # I think it hardens the surface a little and it feels smoother.

Thank you very much for the pictures, Franky!!!

I have the Motor Guard SB-1 currently, the one with two sides.
I am looking to order a Meguiar's sanding pad if that would improve the result of my work.

For Orange Peel Sanding (2000-2500 grit) and then Show Quality Sanding (3000 grit), which sanding pad do you prefer?

I do really like MEG'S They hold up very well, The motor guard tends to curl up and not retain shape.
