  • Am I storing my clay incorrectly?

I opened my container of aggressive clay tonight to find it had grown a bit of mold on it. When I stored it, I put 2 sprays of quick detailer into the container. Does anyone else have this issue or should I leave it dry when putting it away?

    Clay (Pardon my photography skills)
You can see the mold all on the bottom of the clay.
If its fast, loud, and runs on a flammable liquid...count me in.

      Hey,

I always store my clay in Ziploc bags with a couple sprays of M34 and then into the plastic container. I have never had a problem. Did you use a QD with the clay when you used it on a vehicle??

I keep mine in one of those little plastic soap dishes with the lid like you would use for traveling. I also give it a couple of spritzes of quik detailer.

It was stored in the original container that the aggressive clay comes in. I put 2 or 3 squirts of the regular quick detailer in the container. The clay is still soft. I have only used the clay with quick detailer.

That is wierd. I have had some of the mild pro clay for quite a while now in the same container. The black one with the screw on lid. That stuff is still good. You didn't leave it anywhere that it could freeze and then thaw thus creating condensation or anything did you?

Maybe it picked up a contaminant from your paint that was "spoilable" like berry juice in bird droppings, and that is what has gone moldy, not the clay itself. I would trim the yuck off of it, and use the ziploc method Tim suggested, and keep an eye on it.

I tossed my clay bar into that red container that comes in the Quik Clay kit sometime mid last year, no ziploc baggy or spray, and it is still good to go. Just checked it 2 days ago.

Even in the mild clay container I place the clay in a ziploc first. Give it a couple of squirts of last touch then place it in the container. No problems at all.

My white clay I leave dry in the little maroon container. I think I am going to try that with the aggressive clay also. I ran the clay under hot water and the mold came off.
