Just finished washing the pads and here is the update I promised!

Pads getting ready to go into the washing machine.

Here I am getting ready to use the liquid detergent

    The machine was set:

In go the pads, there is no turning back now! Note how dirty the W-8207 pad is!

In the dryer they go! It is recommended to dry on low heat, so that is what I did!

Finally the end results, nice clean pads. The W-7207 did not clean as well as I had hoped it would. It may require a pretreatment first. I also noticed that the density of the W-7207 pad caused it to absorb more water yet tended to float more in the washing machine! But all of the pads are very clean, and feel just like brand new! The laminate/velcro is just fine and appears to be holding up extremely well.

I will keep updating this thread as I get more opportunities to use the new pads on various paints!

You need the adapter because the threaded end is much shorter than the spindle of the rotary buffer. I you attached our W5000 Double Sided Wool Pad to the rotary buffer without the adapter you would have the threaded spindle sticking out the other side of the wool pad where it would come into contact with the paint.

Here's a thread on this topic...

Just this on it's own would make these pads worth every penny as time (not spent washing pads by hand) is the money!

For sure! If it could get them cleaner too it would be a big bonus too. I always seem to put off washing mine as long as possible, not my favorite thing to do.

Thanks for taking time to do a review Tim!

Thanks Tim for this review, the great write up & photos. I haven't tried the new 2.0 pads out yet and this write up sure gives me a great idea of what to expect.

                    Nice job Tim!

Let's see.....I have a zillion dollars tied up in Meguiars pads......now I'm going to want to spend another zillion dollars on these new pads that I must have because Meguiars has improved an already awesome product into a super awesome product.

I guess I better go detail more cars to pay for pads.

Excellent write-up! I like the techincal detail you went into about the new pads. I am sold on them! And I always wondered about using #21 with a rotary. Now I know!

Tim, your reviews are some of the most comprehensive on this site. I really enjoy reading them beginning to end. You also offer insight that only someone with your experience level can do. It helps people like me learn more every day about this process. Thanks for taking the time to be as meticulous as you are with your write ups. I know how much work that is. I'm looking forward to getting some of the new pads and trying them out.

p.s. why would someone want to apply a lsp with a rotary versus DA...seems like it would be more difficult to control the application...does it apply the product any better ?

And do you have a seperate washing machine for washing those "nasty" pads ???...My wife would have serious issues if she saw me put those in the same washing machine that cleans her fancy lingerie...

FWIW... We have the Hot and Cold inlet hoses swapped on our machine and use Cold/Cold which is now Hot/Hot for the heavy duty stuff. The Hot/Cold which is now Cold/Hot doesn't make much sense though.

Thanks you very much Bill for the kind comments!

I normally apply the LSP with the G110 most of the time. Using the rotary for applying LSP's is very tricky as at that point a minor oops and you have holograms. I only chose to do it this time as I wanted to see how the W-9207 Pad would respond. Normally with a finishing pad and a rotary, I would be using that combo as an ultra polishing/refining step, especially on dark colors. But since I only had the one pad and did not want to cross-contaminate products on the pad, I chose to use it for the LSP application instead.

Nope I only have the one washing machine. After washing the pads, I looked really close at the drum of the machine and did not see anything. But just in case, I took a blue Shop Towel and some Iso/Water mix and did a quick wipe. There were no problems at all.

Now about that 'linge... ' .... Oops...I may have to moderate myself in a minute...
