  • NXT Paste...1st use

I finally had a chance to get and use the paste version of NXT. Despite the fact that I had within the past week applied NXT liquid and Collinite Insulator, I had to give this stuff a try.

I put 3 applications on the car, 2 last night and the last this morning. Originally I used a finishing pad to apply the paste, but I discovered a polishing pad yields better results. I also found that in addition to using a low speed setting on the PC, I found that using a slower arm speed also improves the results.

The NXT seem a bit 'dryer' than other paste waxes such as #16, taking a bit longer to start allowing itself to be applied evenly, but once the amount of product in the pad reaches the right proportions combined with the slower PC/arm speed, it easily applies so thin that it's often hard to see on the surface of the car under less than very bright direct lighting.

Removal is similar to that of the liquid, though there seems to bit more 'drag' initially.

By the time I finished the second coat last night, I was too worn out (and it was too dark) to really evaluate the finish. I applied the final coat this morning and despite the temp being only 50* it set up quickly. After removal, I tended to the windows and vacuuming, then a short break. Afterwards I was able to give the car a proper inspection. The paint seemed almost to have additional coats of clear sprayed on. The shine and clarity of the paint was incredible.

The surface is very, very smooth and very, very slick. It will be interesting to watch how it holds up.

Did it gum up on the W9006 pad?

Looking forward to the long term results, as I might try a can of it too.

You will like the NXT Paste Wax. I know it is supposed to be the same as the liquid, but for me it seems to set up more quickly and seems to be more durable. It offers great protection against bird "residue" too. It is very easy to apply and remove, even if you apply too much. Forget your past experience with paste wax, this is different!

I'm using the NXT Paste for my pre-winter detail.

It seems like for every bad review, there are also good reviews. Someone said they weren't satisfied with the paste version, while others seem to like it. I have a tin of it on the back of my LSP shelf waiting to be tried, I'm hoping that I like it.

Dwayne Pfeiffer (Meg's NC rep) was said to like it as much or better than #16.

Did you experience some of the machine pad application issues that Don touched on?

If you mean the finishing pad (I use Lake Country, so I'm not 'up' on Meg's pad #'s) then the answer is big time. Despite the miniscule amount I was using, the center of the pad was pretty heavy with build-up and starting to lose its sponginess, becoming more dense and compacted. Of course the LC finish pad is very soft, almost along the lines of couch cushion material AND extrememly absorbant. The stiffer construction of the polishing pad seemed to allow the open cell design to hold its shape better. Plus the polishing pad seems less absorbant.

Perhaps this has something to do with the initial "dryness" of the NXT paste that I seemed to have.

I'm not giving it a bad review, just pointing out an issue that **I** experienced when applying the paste. I guess I was hoping too much that it would be exactly like the #16. I like the NXT liquid...I almost hate to say this though...it makes an excellent base for Collinite Insulator, which is what I have been doing through the latter half of the summer. I'm thinking the 3 machine applications of NXT will/should have removed the Collinite, so I can see how the paste version stands on its own.

I'm sure he was referring to the protection/longevity
