  • Gotta love that Speed Detailer

Just got finished gving the ride a real good wash job with NXT wash. Used to whole gambit of Meg's brushes mits and MFs.

I have gotten in the habit of Speed Detailing everything just after a wash. The thing looks like I just spent all day putting a couple of coats of wax on it.

Something that I have found that seems to help me is that I have taken up the habit of completely blow drying with a leaf blower. I have used the Water Magnets and Super Plush Terrys before but I still get a few of those ultra fine towel induced marks & scratches. Not bad, nobody else would likely catch them. So for the past 2 washes I went straight to the leaf blower and skipped the towel drying altogether.

After getting it dry with the leaf blower I went for the Speed Detailer using the Microfiber Quik Detail Pad. Did up all the paint work first, then the headlights/tail lights. Then the grill area. After that went for all the Plastic molding and trim. Used the same Microfiber Quik Detail Pad for all in that order. Worked like a champ.

I still use the whole pile of other products as needed like the Exterior Trim Detailer and such but sometimes find that using speed detailer on all works just as well. Use the other products every other wash or so when more time is available.

I use Speed Detailer on my Chrome rims as well but do not use the Microfiber Quik Detail Pads for that. I go with a couple of smaller MFs. One to apply and one to remove. Works like a champ. I usually just use the NXT spray wax on the Chrome for ease of application. NXT polish is still on backorder I guess.

But anywho, I just figured I'd shoot out a blurb on the Speed Detailer. I am very impressed with it. And the blow drying thing really helps me out as it reduces those towel marks by eliminating one step where a towel or WM is involved.

I still keep the WM and Towels around though. Sometimes, if the ride is a little dirtier than normal and I missed some stuff during the wash. Having the WM and Towels around to dry with really helps as you can take your time and sometimes hit a few of those little specs that did not come of during the wash. It happens.

Interesting, I must order some NXT speed detailer. I use the NXT Booster wax after every other wash and sometimes the normal Quik Detailer. Eventhough the wax is easy on/off, it would be faster to use the Speed Detailer, guess it is better for my layers of NXT paste than the normal QD.
How do you like the Quik detailing pad? Must place another order soon I guess.

The Quik Detailer is great as well. I may be mistaken here but I have been under the impression that the Speed Detailer was supposed to have been specially formulated as a follow up for the NXT waxes. Don't quote me on that but it seems I have read that.

Personnally, it would probably boil down to your preference. I can say that I have used both and both are top shlef products. But when I switched from Gold to NXT, I did the whole gambit up and now suppoort the NXT Tech Wax with the Speed Detailer. I am saving my 2-3 bottles of Quick Detailer to be used with clays and also in support of the several other Meg's Carnuba based waxes I still have around the house. Peridically I will top the NXT with Gold. when I do this I switch back to supporting the Gold with the Quick Detailer.

I have used the Spray Wax and gotten good results out of it. I wax my ride every other weekend. Every 2 weeks it gets a coat of NXT liquid with the DA then after 2 more weeks it gets the Spray Wax. With the Speed Detaler used after the washes in between.

As far as the Quick Detail Pad goes. I find it indespensable. I think I have 6 of them in house now. I used to use a good MF to apply the Speed Detaler and another to remove. But, on those occasions were I had not just washed the truck and I had some light dust. Even after I used my Duster I noticed after using the MFs that I would have some very light MF induced scatches, just like I noted in my previous post. The Quick Detail Pad is very thick and soft and I find because of this that those small MF scratches are greatly minimized. One QDP will let me do my entire vehicle with no problem. I mist directly onto the pad wipe down a panel then flip it over and use the dry side for removal. Works like a champ with no regrets.

I wash mine in the washing machine in warm water and woolite and dry in the dryer on regular cycle. Nothing fancy. For storage I find 2 go very well in a gallon ziplock baggie. Pull one out to use and the other is still waiting in the baggie for the next detail.

I usually keep quite a bit of deatiling supplies in the truck so I can pull stuff out and play as needed. But for those occasions where I need more storage in the truck. I take everything out "BUT" a bottle of Spped Detailer and a Quick Detail pad.

If you have any other specific questions please don't hesitate to ask.

        hmmm,

Seems like the leaf blower would be a good idea becasue it would "knock loose" all the water that gets trapped behind the glass of the side mirrors and in-between trunk lids and tail-lights.

I might just give it a try.

Just make sure that there's no grit inside you'r leaf blower becasue it could become a sand-blaster very quickly if some stuff got sucked up in that thing.

Yes, as well as door handles, behind the tags and numerous other places. I find that if I do this correctly than there is no need to towel dry. I can go straight to the Speed Detailer with the Quick Detailer Pad. Works very well for me.

Yes of course. Fortunately I have a couple laying around. One Gas and one Elect. The gas is used for the yard and the Elect. for the cars. Just as an added precaution, once I turn on the blower, I give it a few good hard wraps in a few places on the body of it to dislodge anything that may have somehow gotten in there. Seems to work well enough for me.

This might sound excessive, but it would be nice if a person could outfit a leaf blower intake with some kind of air filter.

I think there could be a market for such a device, or maybe just make a specialized tool for blowing water off of cars altogether....Complete with air filter.

            Gotta' try Speed Detailer though.

I'll look at mine. it's probably doable but I would just about imagine those little motors are not strong enough to pull that quantity of air through a very fine filter without burning up. But a course filter might work. I think I have some extra filter material around from my last furnace filter replacement. I had to buy one of these trim-it-yourself pieces as I could not find the proper size. I think I cut off a foot or 2 and might still have it.

Even without a filter I don't seem to have any problems.

Jeff, that's a great idea about the leaf blower... I think I'll pop mine out and give it a try. I always have problems getting all the water out of the nooks & cranies, and me thinks this just might be the trick.

Regarding NXT Speed Detail - I love it! I am new to Meguair's products having just picked up a bottle of SD a couple weeks ago. I now use it on 2 of my auto's - on top of UPP on one, and on top of EX-P on the other. My preference on both cars is flake-pop and SD does an excellent job popping them flakes!!! Not to mention it is very easy on and easy to wipe in.

Being so impressed with NXT Speed Detailer, I went looking for Meguire products for my next initiatives and was exceptionally impressed with reviews on a couple of the major boards regarding a number of Meg's products. Today I picked up #26 to put on my green Liberty cuz I want to try a glossier finish, and I picked up Scratch X for use on my daughter's 99 Saturn that is riddles with minor swirls, scratches, etc.

You might say that I happened upon Meg's by chance, and I am glad I did. As my 'other' products run out I will look to replace them with Meg's products.

There is another thread that touches on this that might be worth a look for ya:

If you have not already looked into it. I suggest looking into the following:
                  Microfiber Quik Detail Pad

I find this thing great for Speed Detailing

There are alot of great products out there these days. I am no pro at this stuff and am still a newbie myself and what has sold me on Meg's stuff is the customer support. If I have a question, I will have an answer. Either from the forums or the 800#. I can be in the middle of working on a project, have a question or a thought, post it to the forums, then go back to work. The next time I take a break I can just about guarantee someone with experience has chimed in trying to help me out.

I thought the same but after really getting involved and researching the forums and finding out exactly what Meg's was offering me, it did not take me long before I was walking over into my neighbor's garage with a boxload of car care supplies telling him to pick through it and take what he wanted and throw the rest in the garbage. Of course he kept it all but now I think I need to fix my hedges as there is a spot where he has messed it up from leaning into/over them trying to see what I am doing and what I am using. I think Meguiar's should be held responsible for this damage. Ok OH MIKE!

I've seen blowers for just that purpose ( drying cars )
                    not too bulky in size.
at a Big Lots I went to for only $ 19.99

i must agree nxt speed detailer is a great detailer between nxt waxes -- i use it on my entire exterior -- paint-wheels-glass-etc -- i've been interested in trying nxt spray wax but it's always sold out -- is this a sign of the nxt spray wax quality or perhaps someone forgets to reorder it -- i really like using the nxt speed detailer but i just want to try the nxt spray wax -- i'm curious about application differences -- wowo --

does it nmtter that i have nxt liquid wax on my car and use quik detailer as opposed to speed detailer?

                        thanks...

It comes down to personal preference. Speed Detailer is simply the new and improved follow-up product to Quik Detailer. QD is still a great product but I prefer the SD's ease of use and slightly stronger cleaning ability. The consistincy seems much thicker as well. As far as following NXT wax with SD or QD, I don't thik that SD was specifically engineered to better supplement NXT wax, but I may be wrong.

                            leaf blower

I bought my Mach 1 in September of 03. It has not seen a drying towel since November of 04. I use nothing but the leaf blower. I keep it in the trunk of the car also. Haven't been too worried about debris and figure a small particle of dirt hitting one spot on the car isn't anything compared to accidentally getting dirt on the towel drom missing a spot during the wash process, then smearing that dirt all over a fender before realizing what happened. I think your wax job will probably last a lot longer also because there's a lot more friction involved in drying off a car than washing it.
