  • Deep Pile Chenille Wash Mitt X-3000 ~ Review

Now that the summer is winding down I finally got a chance to use my Meguiars Deep Pile Chenille Wash Mitt.

    First Impressions:
Its packaged in some simple cardboard, and it serves its purpose.

Very soft, thick and comfortable on your hand. There seems to be some type of thick padding inside.

    Application/Use:
I used it with Gold Class Car Wash Shampoo & Conditioner.

    Overall Impression:
The mitt holds a good amount of water/suds and seemed to glide over the surface of the paint. Seems to have a nice soft touch on the paint.

I really like the shape... square it better IMO over the glove shaped mitts. With a square mitt you can use the same hand and just rotate the mitt to the other side if you feel it is getting dirty. With a glove you have to change hands and for some(me) that can get a little challenging(using the non dominate hand).

I did not notice any shedding on the vehicle but when I emptied my wash bucket out I did notice some shedding in the water. I would guess with continued use it will reduce the shedding.

I will give it a few more tries and post an update so far its a very good product. I like it and will continue to use it.

Is it made from 100% cotton?

I tried to find out by clicking the link, but I didn't see the type of material listed.

The package does not say either... not to sure. If I was to guess it would be a blend (w/cotton), but its a guess.

Is there any kind of pre-care that I need to do?

I noticed that the mitt tends to "shed" for many of my washes - it still sheds.

any thoughts? maybe i have to throw it in the washing machine...

After reading your post, I'm starting to believe it's made out of 100% cotton. I have a cheap one from Wal-Mart and it shreds a lot at times.

Give it a whirl in the washer, and then fluff it in the dryer. That should help with the excess shredding.

But better check the lable first and see what it says about washing & drying, if it has one.

I will check mine tomorrow for a label and post back what material it is.

Could one of you folks perhaps do a "burn test"? It's a quick and quite reliable test for 100% cotton/not. You could maybe just snip off a bit of the nap (enough to get a good sample in case there are different fibers in a mix), I'm not asking you to set the whole mitt on fire

I've seen a few (offbrands) that would make for good firestarters.

Advice I once got from an old tailor: "wear clothing that burns, not clothing that melts". That's a key difference between natural and man-made fibers.

Cotton burns cleanly, no surprises. Most man-made stuff (like polyester) will melt rather than burn or it will burn "dirty" and will turn into hardened **** instead of ash. It'll usually have a burnt-plastic-like smell if it contains synthetic stuff too.

Sometimes you can have interesting results when you test supposedly "100% cotton" products

Well.... i tried the burn method with a aim-a-flame. I plucked a couple fibers out and they did not want to burn!?!? Its easier said then done! I tried several times and finally one fiber started on fire but went out right away kept trying and trying but never really burned just wanted to extinguish its self.

It is hard to tell... its a little melted but seemed to burn clean at the same time again it didn't really want to burn. It did not melt like you might think a polyester rope might.... I do know a shirt made from Meguiars Wash Mitts wouldn't bother me around a camp fire.

Someone who knows a little more may want to form an better opinion. Might be easier if Mike could tell us.

yes it was dry... Just tried it on some new threads and seemed to burn, but the others still do not, strange maybe some soap or something in them?

Kind of a melted ball burned with black smoke.

good point on the soap. I was just kidding you alittle, I cant afford to go for a ride at 3.60 a gallon so I was going to spend some extra time on here, and being as you guys all ready gave all the good answers I was left this this.

What I want to know is does it matter what its made out of if its made right? or is this one of our old habbits die hard things? I never really gave much thought to the proper wash maintenance untill a few years ago so I haven't had a chance to get use to any one thing, be it sheepskin or cotton ect.
