I just bought some of the NXT All Metal Polysh to use on my factory chrome rims. I'll admit that I messed them up pretty good when I first got the car...I never had chrome rims before and I didn't realise how easy it would be to put some NASTY scratches in them. I had heard of people using steel wool/brillo soap pads on chrome with no problems, so I thought the plastic scrubber/sponges would be OK (they're NOT).
I'm on vacation this week, and I'm using a lot of the time to give my car a full detail/initial winter prep.
I started on the rims today and after washing them with a 5:1 APC solution, I started with the NXT. I used a microfiber that has past it's paint care days to apply the polish. I put the cloth around my finger and just dabbed it into the container. While I was rubbing the polysh on the sides of the spokes and the curved areas between the spokes on the outer edge of the rim, the cloth turned complately black, no matter how many times I went over the area. What's the deal? If these were bare aluminum I could understand, but they are chromed aluminum?
