  • NXT Convert!!!!!!!!!

First off, let me say that Meguiars Online is an outstanding resource, thank you Meguires for putting it on the web!

I've been a devout user of Brand "Z" for some time, lured away from Meguires a number of years ago with all the buzz about the superior polymer shine. Well, folks, that all changed last week. Recently, I had a major problem with my Black 97 SVT Cobra which is usually garage kept, but we were painting and recarpeting the house and moved most of the furnature into the garage, so I left it out for about a two weeks. The car was filthy and, while I was on a business trip, my wife was being helpful and took the Cobra to the carwash .

Apparently, either at her request or inadvertantly, they sprayed that crappy "wax treatment" as part of the wash because when I got home from the trip, it looked like the paint was oxidized with a milky film on it, and looked like you-know-what. I was beside myself, I had over 30 coats of that "other" polymer based product on the car and it offered absolutely no protection. The finish was now dull and I could not get whatever that stuff was off my car even with repeated washes and a quick claybar. I don't even want to talk about the micro scratches in the finish from the so-called "brushless" car wash.

So what did I do? Got out the trusty Porter Cable and went to work. I had some fairly agressive Minzerna two stage polish left over from doing a friend's BMW a few months ago and, after about 4 hours, I got whatever the stuff was off the paint (along with all the old "Z" product). After donating a rather extensive collection of that "other" car polish to the dumpster, I ran down to the local A-Zone and picked up the full NXT deal (wash, waxes and detailer) and went to work.

All I can say is that I was floored by the results. I've detailed a lot of cars and won more than a few trophies with my own, but my daily driver Cobra has never looked this good, I mean NEVER. This NXT stuff is fantastic and the quick detailer is the best I have ever used, it never streaks or leaves a film and really keeps the dust off the car. I've converted the other gear heads at the office over to NXT already...oh yeah, I gragged them out to the parking lot to look at it the first Monday after I did the NXT treatment.

Oh, I attached a couple of pics......I know someone will want them if I don't. Sorry to be so long-winded, but just had to share this with you folks.

    THANK YOU Meguiars!!!!!!!

    Hi 66shelby,

Being this is your first post to our forum, Welcome to Meguiar's Online!

Sorry to hear of the mishap to your car, I'm sure your story about the car wash and what happened to your car's paint will help others to avoid making this mistake. The best thing a person can do if they really want to keep their car's finish in top condition is to take ownership of the car washing process.

Glad to hear you were able to restore the finish on your Cobra, it looks great in the picture!

When you run out of the Menzerna products, you might consider trying some Meguiar's M80 Speed Glaze for light polishing using the dual action polisher and the M83 Dual Action Cleaner Polish for removing more serious swirls and scratches. I've written a little how to article for using these products in the link below...

Couple of lessons here I see:

      1. 30 layers = hype
      2. Don't let anyone else wash your car

Nice cobra! My previous car was a 98 cobra convertible (bright atlantic blue). Looks like you have the Saleen spoiler on the back. Looks great.

BTW, since your cobra is a daily driver, you may want to look into using Meguiars #21. I have had #21 on my vette since April and it still has a great shine.

Nice car. I had a 98 laser red cobra. Every time I use NXT I like it more. I have yet to try #21, but might give it a swing when I run out of NXT. I wish they sold it in smaller bottles.

Glad you were able to restore the car back to the way it was.

Chances are that the spray goop at the car wash wasnt rinsed well, and then the car baked in the sun.

Im not sure if any product would protect it from that.

But ya, #80 speed glaze will make your paint look like a black swimming pool.

That so called hot wax is spray silicone of some sort.

The trick to getting it off is warm water. It doesn't even have to be hot.

I would just attache a hose to the sink and set it for sort of warm/hot and then wash all that stuff off by melting it.
