  • Versa Angle Brushes -- Any Marring?

Has anyone noticed any marring at all from the versa angle brushes? I have a tad bit of marring on the sides of my black Hemi where I use the wide brush, but it could be just my technique. I am very careful about not using the brushes on the lower part of a panel and then going higher on the panel.

I never use the brushes on on the top or hood of the Hemi -- no marring present in these areas.

    Tom,

Instead of using the two bucket method, I point the hose right into the brush and clean it out before every re-soaping. I haven't gotten any marring this way.

    I hope this helps,

As the light changed from red to green to yellow and back to red again, I sat there thinking about life. Was it nothing more than a bunch of honking and yelling? Sometimes it seemed that way.

Ditto what Tom said. This works even on black Honda clear coat.

i just bought the versa-angle body brush and when i chose it (went to two different places) i noticed how different they both felt. naturally... i went with the one that was softer. don't know if it's inconsistent or not, but i always feel all mf's and brushes, before i choose.

No marring here either. I love the brush especially for removing baked-on bugs.

You can get marring with any washing device, if dirt gets onto it and it is not removed promptly. And marring can result if you press down too hard. It does seem easier to me to keep the brushes clean as the dirt will migrate away from the surface when you rinse it. When a vehicle gets really dirty there is always the possibility of marring when you wash it. All you can do is try your best to minimize it.

The life of a daily driver is tough on paint, there is no avoiding it. But if you just do the best that you can your paint will still look better than 99.5% of the cars and trucks on the road. When it is not raining, I like to use a duster and use the Speed Detailer every day if possible. Then when I do need to wash, like after a rainstorm, the amount of surface dirt is minimized and along with that the possibility of marring is minimized.

Yeah, even when the washing device itself is soft enough, the abrasive dirt being moved across the paint can do damage.

I like blasting soap suds through the bristles of a brush with a foamgun. The foam provides both solvent action and lubrication, the bristles dislodge the dirt, and the soapy foam flushes it away. This is the only non-marring method I've found to remove the sort of caked on, abrasive dirt that vehicles pick up during winter.

In the New Products Suggestions forum, I suggested using a modified grit guard for these wash brushes, to help remove the grit particles from the bristles.

I'm sure a homemade version would work here.

Something on the order of a old timey wash board, except it be made out of a plastic grate, or something similar.

I think I have seen screens that painters use for wringing out rollers that would fit the bill here. Likely fit right into a bucket too.

Finally had a chance to use the small body brush myself Saturday. Not sure if it will replace my wash mitt, but it did a great job of removing dirt in hard to reach places like cracks & valleys.

I used the 2 bucket method like I would when using a wash mitt. Sloshing the brush around in the rinse bucket seemed to dislodge the dirt particles pretty good. I hit it with the spray nozzle a few times too.

Not completely sure yet, but I don't think I scratched the finish any....I'll check it out a little closer tomorrow.

I have it hanging up to drip dry for now, but I'm thinking about using a hair dryer on low heat to fluff the bristles.....Anyone ever try that?

I think the brush is a good buy for what it is, and it will surely come in handy for cold weather washing.

Poyo- Different people will tackle that in different ways, but when I have something that won't wash off easily I use clay (or a paint cleaner) to remove it rather than a more aggressive wash method.
