  • Scrach X? how to remove old wax

I bought Scratch X and tried to repair some scratches, but found it did not work.

Before applying Scratch X, I had old wax in the car, but I cleaned the area with water and microfiber towel. so did I miss anything ? do I need to remove old wax? do I have to apply the scratch area more than one time?

Using scratch X will remove the wax you have on your paint. You will most likely have to take multiple passes with the scratch X to remove the defects. IF you can fell the defect with your finger nail then it is too deep and then scratch x cannot fix it.

      Hey

Because of the diminishing abrasives in the ScratchX, it is not a wipe on, wipe off product. You need to really work the product with some real energy until it becomes a light residue/dust. Here is an application of how to apply and remove ScratchX

      I hope this helps!

Typically when someone doesn't get the results they're hoping for with ScratchX, it comes down to two reasons,

The scratches are two deep and the paint too hard to remove by hand and must be removed by machine if they can be safely removed at all. (The back label of ScratchX states this by the way)

The person using the product merely wipes the product on and then wipes the product off thinking somehow the product removed enough paint to level the surface.

A scratch in paint is missing paint, to remove a scratch, you don't actually remove the scratch, you remove paint around the scratch. The problem with this is modern clear coat finishes are pretty hard compared to traditional paints and it's difficult to remove small particles of paint surrounding a scratch in a controlled way that doesn't scar the finish at the same time.

Here's an article that talks about how to use this product to remove scratches by hand.

Removing scratches means removing paint. The only product that removes paint without you physically working a product against the finish is aircraft quality paint remover and while this will remove the scratch, it also removes [all the paint. So keep in mind, in order to remove a scratch, you typically have to put some passion behind your applicator pad and apply more than one applications. Sometimes 2, 3, 4 and even more applications. This is one of the reasons so many people purchase a dual action polisher is to let the machine do the work.
