  • Gettin ready for Summer Detailing

Im gettin ready to detail my black 97 z28 for the summer. I washed it a few times during the winter to keep the salt off and waxed it once. I did my wheels and interior already so Exterior is all that's left. I want to get it so that all i have to do is wash it occasionally and apply the booster wax.

This is what i plan on doing:
-Washing with Palmolive to remove wax.
-Claybar to remove all wax and oxidation.
-Wash with NXt wash to clean up streaks
    -Hand dry
    -Possibly use some scratchX
    -Nxt wax
    -Let dry
    -Buff
    -Admire

    Occasionally:
    wash and add booster wax

    Questions:
Should I use scratchX or not and how exactly should i Use it?
Do i need to do anything else such as polishing etc?
Should i do more than one layer of nxt wax?

Honestly if i was you i would turn away from using the dish soap it will remove old wax that is left and also dry your paint out. Assuming that you are doing the work by hand I would advise you to use the deep crystal step 1(paint cleaner) and step 2(polish) folllowed by 2 coats of nxt at least 12 hours apart.

    as far as the steps:
    1. wash nxt or gold class
    2. clay entire car
    3. use the paint cleaner
    4. polish with the step 2 polish
    5. wax with the nxt
*if you have scratches or swirls you can always do touch up spots after you clay then just finish with the process
Hope i was able to help Greg.

      I agree,

NXT shampoo will only help to add luster to the paint.

Leave the dish liquid in the kitchen.

        Definately avoid the dishwashing soap.

If you need to use ScratchX will depend on your paint condition. But at the very least, you will want to use a paint cleaner (DC#1 for mild cleaning), then polish, (DC#2), and then you Nxt wax.

I agree with everyone's posts above. As for the ScratchX, you'll have a tough time doing the whole car. Use ScratchX for isolated spots with swirls, then use Deep Crystal #1 Paint Cleaner on the entire car, followed by polish, then wax
