Me too

I bought the B&T last year and used it on my front bumper. I was very dissapointed. The first Meguiar's product that didnt meet my expectations.

After reading the tips I will try again, that is if the tar (that is now over a year old) hasn't sucked any dinosaurs into its trap.

Speaking of years, How long does wax/polish/etc stay good????

You can typically expect Meguiar's surface care formulations to retain their full effectiveness for three to five years, as long as the container has been sealed tightly, and has not been frozen.

Always shake Meguiar's liquid products well before using, especially if they have been sitting for an extended period of time.

Thanks for the tips! I also bought some Autoglym brand tar remover based on David B's recommendations. Is it more or less aggressive than the 3m?

Just got back! Fishing was great! Road very dusty!

Anyway, I have the 3M Adhesive Remover, (body shop only issue), and I have to agree with Aurora, though it works, it is not that gentle in my opinion! I would strongly encourage you to order the Meguiar's Body Solvent.

That's a good idea! I forgot about the Body Solvent. Mike had suggested that for tree sap too. So they have the Body Solvent in the Detailer line, and the Bug and Tar remover in the Consumer line?

Recently, I added the Pinnacle Bug and Tar sponge to my arsenal. You can keep this in the bucket when you wash the car (and of course take it out when you need it). I have to admit that it works mirracles for bug splatter. For tar it works average. It does not remove all tar stains (on my car it is mainly the tiny tar spots). These however can be removed with B&T remover. As far as I can see now, the sponge does not cause scratching or swirls. I use the sponge gently though and do no put to much pressure on it .

I read through the thread, but may have missed it:

Can you use the B&T remover on clear plastic, such as the plastic over the headlight area?? I wash weekly, and no matter how much I scrub those bugs on that area, they never all come off (using DC car wash, but switching to GC wash soon).

Even though it's a different product.....if I can't use B&T remover on this plastic area, would PlastX help with bug removal? (Brand new car and I have PlastX, but haven't had the need to use it yet....)

Not sure if it will harm the plastic... but if it were me I would use PlastX, infact I do use it to remove hard to remove bugs!

Unfortunately I learned this last year about this time and I don't know if it would apply to cars but I know it works on skin! ...my son rollerbladed into freshly laid asphalt near our street last year and got hot tar on his arm and leg (how is a very long story) BUT, at the hospital where he was taken, they struggled with how to get the tar off of him since it had hardened when cold water was poured on it....finally, one of the nurses suggested petroleum jelly....thankfully, it worked...the jelly softened up the tar almost immediately and they were able to scrub it off his skin (post morphine ) ...so, I've never tried to use petroleum jelly on a car and would ask Mike or someone to respond with the viabilty of using it on tar that's on paint...ya never know

When i was a kid, mother used butter and it worked. Fresh tar on the feet, not splatter that has hardened over days or weeks.

I'm like yndio;I've put a glob of NXT paste wax on a bug/tar spot,let it sit for a few minutes and then rubbed it off. Worked fine for me.

I can't say enough about the NXT wax.I get a lot of compliments on the way my cars ( '97 T-Bird,2008 Taurus and 2010 Focus) shine,thanks to the paste wax. I have no problems recommending it to people who really care for their cars.

I have been having alot of luck using a bug sponge that I found in the auto section of walmart the other day. I just let it soak in car wash soap for a few minutes while I"m cleaning the wheels then spray the bugs off with water to wet them, then pass the sponge over the bugs using straight line motions. It takes them off without too much effort.

I tried some turtle wax bug and tar remover -- it smelled terrible and I used about half the bottle on one car. I'll continue to use the bug sponge for $1.50 which I'm very happy with.
