  • Who's gonna be the first to try the big ol' SPONGE?

I dunno, I think it's gonna be one of you guys; let me know how it works.

I tried the big 'ole sponge and it worked great! I used it under and on top of my spoiler. There were zero scratches.

It's good to use underneath a spoiler because you can scrunch it up and it will expand so you can clean the underside of the spoiler and the car body that is underneath it at the same time. It holds a lot of soapy water so you don't have to keep returning to the wash bucket.

If you keep it away from the lower body panels it won't pick up cinders and other debris that may scratch the paint.

Many years ago I used to wash the car with sponges. Never had a problem. I guess I knew enough back than to check it for stones, cinders, etc. after I rinsed it.

Like the other accessories I have used it is of very high quality and is very soft. It is soft enough that it may encapsulate abrasive dirt so it doesn't scratch.

I used it on my door jams just to be able to say that I used it. As far as sponges go, I think that it is very good quality -- very soft and it holds lots of water.

Lot's of folks probably think that a sponge is the thing to use when you wash a car. Meguiar's might as well get their money too.

OK, well how about this. I now have TWO DIFFERENT sponges I got from Meguiars: one that I got in a "Gift Pack" from Target, which is the same size as the one that comes as a new accessory but has a denser foam and is a lighter color; and the new accessory.

Are they "the same" but from different production runs?

It makes me very nervous. It's a throw back to pre crazed enthusiast/Autopian days. Try it on a junker first for sure and in your experimentation be sure to use it when its lightly and moderately dirty. I'd stay far away from a very dirt vehicle with one. If you are satisified, I modify my saying to fit this product: "The more sponges the merrier". Meguiars sure seems like it has every user of every washing media covered.

I just tried the sponge out... This is a quality sponge. I am not going to use it on any painted surfaces, I prefer to use a mitt/sponge with a deep knapp. Not saying the sponge its self will scratch but I am worried that some sand/dirt may get stuck between the paint and sponge.

I did notice after using it (cleaning the sponge) there was some fine sand still in the sponge and as I squeezed the water out I could feel some sand releasing into my hands.

            The package describes it well:
            - Super durable foam...
            - ...holds an amazing amount of wash solution...

For those who use sponges this is a very good one... comparing it to the other car wash sponge I have, the Meguiars one appears to be made from a much better more durable and dense foam.

Sponges are for wheels only on my car. Wash mitts are the way to go on the rest of the car.

I'm sure there's a place for it somewhere, but I'm not sure if I'll wash my car with it.

Wonder if the grit guard would help to dislodge any dirt particles stuck in the big ol' sponge?
