    Even Coat Applicator

    1. Packaging & Labeling. Is it well packaged? Are the labels durable?

With regards to the packaging, I wasn’t to pleased with the open ended box the applicators are sold in. I would’ve liked to see a sealed plastic bag to protect the pads from debris during shipping or while on the shelf at a store.

    2. Helpful instructions on label?

    Straight forward directions.

    3. Does product do what the manufacturer claims it does?

    Claims:

Super soft, specialized micro fiber material produces unsurpassed results when applying wax or protectant. True

Ideally sized for long term comfort. True

Wash and dry as you would any towel. Well the apps can be washed (at your own risk)

    4. Value. Is the product a good buy? If a liquid product, how much per ounce? Does a little go a long way?

Very good value for the money. These app pads are great. See why in the Overall section.

    5. Easy to use? Hard to use? Did you read the directions and use as directed?

Use as you would a foam app.

    6. If known, what is the pH of the product? Is it safe for enthusiasts or should it be for professional use only?

Best used by any one waxing a car.

    7. Describe the product smell, viscosity and other physical traits if any.

The micro fiber seems familiar. I think the apps are made from the same MF as the Ultimate wipes. These pads fit perfectly in my (and probably most) hands.

    Overall

I love this new product. The design of the pad is great. What I see as great about the design is when then pad is in the palm of the hand the light downward pressure and movement is spread out to the entire hand rather than just the fingers. The foam pads (how I use them any way) most of the light pressure and grip was by first three fingers. This has reduced fatigue and cramping.

Applying a thin coat is very easy with this pad. The product spreads real easy with this pad. I apply most of my LSPs with this new app rather than my PC now.

Now for the bad news… I purchased 2 sets of 2 pads a few weeks ago. I have washed those pads 3 times. Now the pads seams are opening up (3 of the 4). See pic below. I did call customer service and they sent out some new ones. I really like this product but I’m not too pleased with them falling apart. I expect the pads to fall apart but after 3 washes. Maybe it’s just a bad batch of pads or thread. Hopefully Meguiar’s will address this if it’s not an isolated incident. Maybe just my apps are ripping open. Hope so.

    Great Review Scrub!

I would like to add to your comments with some of my own:

I too..like this pad very much. As mentioned it's the right size and fits well in my hand, and I have a pretty big hand. It does reduce fatigue or finger cramps that I normally find using smaller less adequate pads.

The material is wonderfully soft and very safe especially for dark colored vehicles. I used mine on my very soft black paint and it left no marring whatsoever, so as with Scrub, I will be using these more for LSP's.

I also wanted to use one to apply exterior dressing with and find it to be excellent for this. I just spray some dressing on one side, wipe and apply it, turn the pad and buff the excess with the other side. Does a super job and it gives me great results and seems like I will use less product as it carries the product well across the surface.

A pad like this will offer great multiple uses so I think I will replace the foam applicators for these from now on.

Dollar for Dollar, this seems to be a great product. I will be washing mine soon, and hope that I do not encounter the pad coming apart at the seams.

      Scub,

I too have noticed that pretty much all terry applicators don't hold up well to washing at all. After using about 6 of the new even coat applicators I washed them last night and already they show signs of wear. I think I will have to use a gentle cycle next time if that matters?

While I do have these pads, looked forward to having them and do enjoy using them I have found them difficult to use with paste waxes. Because of the shape and stiffness of the pad it's difficult to get product onto the face of the pad without overloading the front edge of the pad and therefore laying down a thick layer of wax that can be difficult to remove. I will likely give it another go but as of now I prefer the regular foam apps for waxing.

For those of us who are "hobby detailers", the pads might be very much OK for a long time. I hand wash all of my pads as well as my microfiber towels and polishing cloths.

My experience with these pads are exactly how Scrub described. I'm bummed too about the easy-to-split stitching. Hope Meguiars can produce a revised batch that ends this problem.

We already have taken action on this issue. We've migrated over to a more durable thread to avoid this problem. Unfortunately, there will be a few of these that have made there way out into the market before the change. If you have any problems with the stitching on these applicators, please call our Customer Care Hotline at 1-800-347-5700 and they'll take care of you.

                  Hi guys,

I just got my replacement from JSanchez but it was the wrong item. I was sent the foam applicator two pack ( product X3070) instead of the white microfiber rectangular shaped pads.

I just hope others who may have phoned in about them don't get the wrong pads too.

                    Hi Bill,

What can we say but Whoops!

I apologize for this and I'll send Jorge and the rest of our Customer Care Team this link right now to bring their awareness of this issue to a higher level. I'm sure it was just an oversight but we'll make sure to process a replacement order right away.

On that note, Meguiar's Customer Care Hotline Team Members are all top notch at what they do. It's a hard job but they tackle it with enthusiasm and professionalism. Mistakes happen once in a while, but the trend has been and will continue to be 5-Star Service because... they care. It's more than a job, it's their passion...

                      Hi Mike,

I don't doubt that for a minute I just wanted to put the word out in case there was a computer error or something like that. I know I can count on all of you to help out!

Did you get to keep the products that they sent out by mistake as well?

This is one my favorite Meguiars products. I suppose by now that issue with the seams coming undone has been corrected but I now permanently wash them only by hand. No issues at all doing it this way. I apply LSPs, both sealants and wax, with this product. I like the fact that it can "dip into" a tub of wax better than other pads that are too wide.

I'm not going to use it apply dressings as I like foam for that, but so far the Even Coat pad is a keeper for me. :

I use the applicators for my interior, simply awesome. Nice thin layer, flip it over and buff down the shine, if there is one.

I will pick up some new ones to try out on the glass, i think it would be better than just a towel as it applies better, more even pressure. Maybe a dedicated QD sponger for the glass might be even better still, i will see some day.
