  • Scratch-X saved the day!

I've had my '09 Raven Black Mustang GT for one year now. It is garage kept and I wash it about every 2 weeks. Since I do not have cover to wash the vehicle under I wash the car early in the morning or late in the evening. I use the 2 water bucket (wash/rinse) method with proper car wash shampoo. Dry with proper towels, and wax after wash. 2 days ago after washing/drying and waxing I noticed something strange with the surface paint on the upper rear quarter panels just by the rear side windows. I looked at different angles with the sunlight and to my horror I had stage 1 mineral etching. The crazy thing was that it was not an occasional spot here or there. It was tons of tiny little spots all over the place like blood splatter. It looked like the paint had chicken-pox erruptions all over the place. I said to myself - no it cant be! Sure enough it was! I first tried the vinager trick. Did not work. I tried the clay bar (was not picking up any grit with the clay-car surface was smooth as a babys butt) - still no luck. So I went to my local Auto Zone and picked-up some Scratch-X. I tried a small 1x2 section that had alot of the tiny etchings. I guess I was a little conservitive with the rubbing at first. It wasn't seeming to clear up the damage. So I tried rubbing a little harder and lowe and behold! Success! I cleared up the pitting/deposits. For the life of me I can not seem to figure out where this pitting/deposits came from. At first I thought it was blow-out from the side mirrors on the car, but this was alot of pitting and the mirrors could not contain this much water. I then remembered about 5 months ago when I was driving home some neighborhood kids were standing out by the side of the street and were drinking some kind of beverages. I think I may have been sprayed by some liquid when passing by them at a slow rate of speed and I got some spayed on my car? Anyway - Thank you Meguiar's soooo much for this great product! You have saved my paint from ruin!
