  • Metal Polish Comparison

So, since it was a nice day, I figured I would play with my mufflers and exhaust tips, and actually compare products for once. May as well contribute something to the subject, though I think Joe has me beat.

So, here is what I started with:

I used Bug & Tar Remover, and then washed with the Multi-Piece Wheel Wash.

Then I clayed, which removed some more dirt and tar, but not everything. And then I used the Nxt Metal Polish on the right side, and Hot Rims on the left. Both were wiped down with the Quick Wheel Detailer when done to remove stubborn polish.

    Here is the Hot Rims:

    And here is the Nxt:

    And then side by side:

With the sun sort of interfering, I pulled forward a bit:

    Conclusions:

    1. They look pretty close, which is good. Didnt want to have odd looking mufflers...

    2. The Nxt is a lot creamier, which seemed to give a longer work time, and easier to spread. Seemed to have to go back to the Hot Rims can quite a lot before I had enough to really work around the big areas. Not sure if I reallly used more or not, but felt like I might have.

    3. I belive the Hot Rims is supposed to be stronger, but the Nxt seemed to pull more black off. Maybe that side was dirtier, or maybe I worked it more with it being creamier.

    4. Not sure which I will buy again....

I love the color of that car, reflects great in the sunlight. The exhaust looks great on both sides.

If you like the NXT AMP, might want to jump on that as it's discontinued! Having said that, I have found that M93 - Marine Line Metal Polish is very similar to NXT AMP...plus, it's a bigger tub (14oz. vs. 5oz.)

Good comparisons Matt. I just started to use the marine line. Now I am glad I have it. Since the NXT is discontinued.

The Mufflers look great. Good work.

I also like the color of your car. Looks great.

I know, I love that pic.... the sun wasnt just right, or I could have done one with Hot Rims as well.

Going to have to look into the Marine line one perhaps.... I shouldnt enjoy polishing mufflers this much.

The #93 in the blue tub? Is it quite similar, the description sure sounds like Nxt?

Yes. The Marine M93 Metal Polish is similar to NXT All Metal Polish

This question came up a few months ago and I checked before posting the reply to this question here,

Besides that it's also available in a larger size tub and moves through different distribution channels for different markets.

                        Thanks Mike,

                        Just more to ponder now....

Any tweaks for a salt watery environment cant hurt under a car.

Yes Matt. I used it on the rims on a rail buggy I did last week. Worked very well. Good stuff.

You guys are aware that the Marine line counts for the Megs "Buy 3, get 1 Free" promo right? Cheapest I have found it is on Amazon for $15. ADS has it for $20ish.

You could buy 32oz of M105, 32oz of M205 and get the M93 for free. Not a bad deal.

I've looked high and low for the NXT AMP but alas no luck. I didn't know it was discontinued. I love the HW MaAP, it does a fine job on my ambulance's diamond plating and other aluminium parts!
