We try to pick a group of people that have a positive history of being fair and balanced above all and also people that have demonstrated through their posting history that they have experience properly using a wide spectrum of detailing products.

We also want people that are in a position to test the product in the environment in which the product would be normally used, for example if we want a degreaser tested we would look for people that as a normal course of their business they use degreasers. If we sent a degreaser to a person that as a normal course of their life they don't regularly use degreasers then it might be a while before we get any feedback and the feedback we get might not have as much value as the feedback from a person that uses degreasers all the time because this person doesn't have anything to compare the test product to or extensive experience to weigh their new experience against.

      Does that make sense?

Besides all of the above it's also important for the testers to take a professional approach to the task and this includes little things like the ability to write grammatically correct sentences and paragraphs and at some level checking their text for spelling mistakes, using capital letters to start a sentence etc.

Our forum tends to be fairly free-wheeling but when it comes to choosing a handful of people to test a product and then to share their honest feedback with the rest of the community we do look for people that can be counted on to cover the basics of everything that's involved with testing a product and that includes the feedback portion on our forum.

Re: Product "129D" - Test Feedback

Well I was one of the lucky few to get a pre-release bottle of this product. I applied to the hood of my car on Saturday. (4/21/2007) I first noticed the smell. It has a very obvious NXT product line smell to it.

Anyways I cleaned me hood with a alcohol/water mix and applied the 129D to one half of the hood. Right away there is a slight difference in how slick the surface is compared to the untreated side. I think I found surprizing is the treated side felt even more slick 30 minutes later! I also applied it to half of the roof of my car and half of my trunk.

Well it rained slightly last night and I am waiting to see if there is any noticable change in the water beading on my car. I will also keep you guys updated over the next few days of my findings.

I will not have any picture to share as my digital camera gave up the ghost Saturday after shooting a few pics at Cars and Coffee in Irvine.
You left out licking the water off. Oh, wait a minute, that's my cat, not my car. Uh, I mean my cat licks himself dry. I don't lick my cat dry. Or my car. -PC.

I'm guessing a spray on cleaner/wax or, dare I say it, an all in one claybar/detailer/wax in a bottle!?!

Damn you Meguairs and your hypnotic ability to seperate me and my cash!

          I am curious and anxious.

129D huh? Nice to have at least a temporary name for this rather than the "super top secret black bottle stuff".

Some of you may recall that I alluded to this product in the comments on the March 29th Open Garage session as I was privileged enough to try it out briefly back then. I now have a bottle full to play with so over the weekend I washed my PT as usual and then used 129D as a quick detailer to remove those little spots left behind as residual water leaks its way out of little crevices here and there.

Just as a few weeks ago on my Miata over at Meguiar's, here's what I immediately noticed on my PT yesterday:
            • The aroma is unmistakably NXT - could be a ploy though!
            • When sprayed onto the paint it looks much more like Quik Detailer, almost a very pure watery looking liquid. It's hard to explain, but if you've ever sprayed Quik Detailer next to NXT Speed Detailer you know what I'm talking about. Anyway, it made very short work of these little fresh water spots.
            • I noticed no streaking whatsoever, even on a section of the car that had been sitting in the sun for a while and was fairly warm to the touch
            • This stuff is SLICK!! An initial wipe with a microfiber feels pretty normal, but flip that towel and wipe once more and it just gliiiiiddddes!!

I have yet to get the car wet since using 129D so I can't comment on anything regarding that. In a couple of days I plan on a half 'n' half treatment on the Camaro, then I'll wet it down and see if there's anything noticeable. I'll shoot some pictures of that when I do it.

So far though, I have to say that as a mist & wipe product this one appears to be really great stuff.

I was also one of the lucky ones!
I tried it out on a black hood.
The first thing I noticed was the smell. NXT! The bottle even looks like a NXt bottle. Could be a red herring.
It spayed on like QD, Almost like water like Mike said above.
No streaking and VERY slick. It did rain the next day and the water seemed to sheet off IMHO.
              I really like it!

The car sits outside as well. The paint also looks deeper and wetter.

No, no. We were told really nothing more than to treat it as we would any mist & wipe product. Mike Pennington was very clear that Meguiar's did not want to create any impressions for us going in - just use it like any other mist & wipe but pay attention to the look, feel, etc.

it's probably more like Optimum Opti-Seal...so it's paint sealant from Meguiar's

Re: Product "129D" - Test Feedback

We are always looking at many different sources as far as product ideas go.

It is tough though to say a new product comes from only 1 source...usually a new product is "born" from many areas of input, including consumer feedback

THis is slightly off topic, but i like the return to the all black bottle. It looks much classier imho.

So this is what we tried out. Although I didn't get a bottle to try out I did do a spray & wipe on Mikes PT. From that small sample I too received that NXT aroma and wiping it down was a breeze and slick. Mikes PT Cruiser was already slick so I'm wondering what it'll be like on a less maintained vehicle.

                              Int. Feedback

Test subject... Black hood from a Mazada 626 that I have been practicing rotary tech on... Wiped with 50/50 Iso/Alch to clean.

Applied NXT Paste to one half of the hood vertically, then used the new mist and wipe on the lower half of the hood, effectivaly giving me 4 spot cross section.

                              Upper left side: No product
Upper right side: NXT Paste, one coat
Lower left side: New mist and wipe product
Lower right side: New mist and wipe product over one coat of NXT Paste.

The feel of this product was very slick. The product slid nicely over all four sections (no difference in feel under the cloth). I turned and wiped dry. My first impression was how easily the product spread over the hood and how slick it became as I wiped dry.

I also noticed how resistant the product seemed to streaking. After my intial wipe off of the product, there was a few areas with product remaining. The product seemed to melt into the paint, streak free and slick. Very nice.

As I noted, I could not notice a difference in application between the side with NXT and the side with out. The product spread evenly over both sides and as of right now, both the waxed and unwaxed sides are equally slick and dark. Both sides also reflect similar, in that it is impossible to tell which side has wax and which doesn't.

The smell is similar to NXT wax, but much different then the NXT detailer.
