  • First NXT wax on my new Tiburon

2006 Hyundai Tiburon, dark blue metallic. Just purchased it spankin' new on 7/29 with 38 miles on it. I took it through a local touchless/spot-free car wash for a wash & wax a couple of times, but today was the first time I got to use my new waxes and polishes and stuff.

I started off by giving the car a complete soap & wash using a new spot-free home washing kit. No special soap. Then I dried it with some soft bathroom towels. Then the wax.

I bought two cans of Meguiar's paste wax; Gold Class and the NXT stuff. I couldn't decide which would be the best to use, so I tested a little of each on one of my dark colored guitars (I play guitar). The guitar has a polyurethane finish with some black plastic parts on it. In all honesty, I couldn't tell the two waxes apart where the guitar's finish was concerned, but I did notice quite a bit of difference on the black plastic; the NXT wax produced a much deeper/richer shine, whereas the Gold Class left it clean but slightly cloudy. Other than that, no observable difference. So, I decided that my first car wax job would be with the NXT paste.

The NXT was very easy to apply using the included foam applicator, and completely dried in about 20 minutes in 80 degrees/75% humidity. It rubbed off very nicely with much less white dust than the regular Turtle wax I've used on other cars in the past and no streaking. I used the same cloth to buff all the wax off the car section by section, then used a fresh new cloth to buff & polish the entire car to it's best shine. I avoided endless/continued rubbing, thanks to posts on this forum. The result was not quite the liquid-watery-wet shine I was hoping for, but it was definately a clean, clear, deep, rich shine- better than polishes I remember from the past. The next thing I noticed was that the swirl marks that had completely marred an otherwise beautiful paint job, were now almost completely gone! Now THAT impressed me, because I didn't expect a wax to do this. In fact, the waxes I remember would polish the car nicely, but made swirl marks show up even more. I am very impressed! The overall shine wasvery nice, no complaints.

Next, I broke out with my new bottle of Meguiar's Hot Shine Tire Spray and began slopping it on my tires. The shine was great, and was what I expected. A few more touch-ups here and there, and I took her for a spin for a couple of hours to see if I could cop a few looks.

Eventually I pulled into the brightly sunlit parkinglot of a local park on this absolutely picture-perfect sunny day, and got out to look over the deatils of my new wax job. I was somewhat disappointed when I noticed that there were some minor splatter spots all over the sides of the car and around the wheel wells. This was caused by something I had forgotten about - tire shine had splattered off the tires onto the sides of the car. Not a really big deal, but certainly worth correcting. I decided to just drive to the nearest auto store to see what Meguiar's had for quick-spray polishes. I picked up a bottle of NXT Speed Detailer and some new cotton cloths, took the car to a shady location to spot-wax the entire car (about 20 minutes). All of the tire shine goo came off easily, and I was surprised to find that the shine on my car was now even deeper and richer than when I left my driveway.

Based on this as my first experience, my impression of Meguiar's car care products is that they are simply excellent. Time will tell how long the shines last on my car & tires, but so far I really dig it!

If somebody could take the time to enlighten me about the differences between the NXT paste and the Gold Class (which I haven't used yet), I'd apprediate it. Also, if you have any advice based on my story here, that'd be cool too. Thanks.

    Cool!

Oh - and here's a pic after the NXT paste, but before the Speed Detailer:

Tiburon looks great. The more you read the forums you will see that NXT appearance improves as time (a day or so) goes by. They call it curing, or cross linking. Although it is not mandatory, waiting 12 hours then applying a second coat will ensure proper coverage of the entire surface of the paint. The 12 hours allows time for the cross-linking/curing. Keep using the speed detailer but wipe it down with a microfiber such as Meguiar's Supreme Shine Microfiber. (You'll love these towels- I keep four of them in every trunk of all my vehicles). Add NXT Generation Spray Wax for a periodic quick wax and your car will look great for months to come.

I beleive one of the key differences between Gold Class and NXT is that Gold class is a carnauba wax and NXT is strictly synthetic.
