  • Meguiar's NXT Generation Tech Wax Paste

This past Tuesday, I decided to try NXT Tech Wax, so I picked up a can of the paste (as many folks here prefer it over the liquid) at Target. After washing my Mustang with NXT Car Wash and drying it with The Absorber, I first prepped the body panels with a coat of Simply Z-Best Car Wax (which has been my regular wax for over a year). Shortly afterwards, I applied one coat of NXT on the hood, roof and trunk. I wiped off the excess with a Target Vroom microfiber polishing towel.

The next day, after work, I applied a second coat of NXT on those three panels. Then yesterday, I applied one coat on the fenders and doors. Today, I finished off the quarter panels.

Compared to Z-Best, NXT does a better job hiding swirls on the surface. The only downside is that it doesn't wipe off as easily as Z-Best. Still, I'm impressed with the shine it gives out, especially on a light and metallic color.

Perhaps it's too early for me to tell exactly how glossy my Mustang will look, but here are some pics:

Maybe next week, I'll buy a bottle of #26 to finish it off, but in the meantime, it's NXT for my Mustang.

    Hi:

When NXT is hard to get off it generally means that you have applied to much product.

Next time try spreading a thinner coat and see how it works.

Also, I am not sure you really need thhe other wax with NXT. It possible could have caused the problem with the NXT.

Try some of the other Meguiar's products to prepare the surafce before waxing.

I guess you're right about that. I'll apply a thinner coat this weekend.

I thought I'd experiment with using both products. I've had lots of luck with Z-Best over the past year, but even though it's extremely protective against rain and other contaminants, it doesn't give out a lot of gloss as expected. And I can't use Z-Best over NXT, as it's a cleaner wax and it'll just end up erasing the NXT.

Just one point, you can spread it REALLY REALLY thin, lots thinner than it seems you should, and still get the same amount left after removal as if you'd caked it on.

The car looks super, it has that NXT glow!

As the light changed from red to green to yellow and back to red again, I sat there thinking about life. Was it nothing more than a bunch of honking and yelling? Sometimes it seemed that way.

Thanks. I'll take more pics tomorrow once I apply a final coat.

Well, it rained this morning. I wasn't able to see any water beads, as I woke up by the time everything dried out. I did see a whole bunch of dirty water spots. This usually happens whenever I don't dust off the surface before rain occurs. Nothing major, as I simply whipped out my QD and wiped the panels clean.

As far as the wax finish goes, I did notice that my Mustang seems to have become bluer than usual. But then again, it's really hard to tell, as Windveil Blue is one of those metallic colors that change contrast depending on the angle of light. I'll check again tomorrow morning and post a pic.

I think NXT is considered to be more of a sheeting wax than a beading. I find this to be true.

But I think if after a rain, there can be quite a few droplets left on the horizontals. I guess it depends on the degree of slope as well as whether or not the rain came to reasonably quick stop or just slowed to a spit.

If there is lots of water present. The sheeting effect will remove the largest portion.

Don't mistake my enthusiasm for experience.

I actually prefer the liquid over the paste because I too found the paste difficult to remove if accidentally applied too thick. This paste wax isn't too forgiving if applied thick, which, IMHO is a knock against its "ease-of-use."

Either way both liquid and paste give outstanding results.

I use the paste. I really like it. The car looks great. I don't think you will find #26 to be any better. If you do buy a can of #26 paste be sure to open the can before you purchase it. Check to make sure it looks consistant.
