  • NXT Wax vs Klasse...

    Hello all,

This is my first post on the forum and the reason I decided to sign up is because I find this site had lots of excellent information and people are not only respectful to each other, but they always give good feedback on the various products.

I am having a dilemma. I currently own the following waxes:

    Meguiar's NXT Tech Wax
    Klasse All-In-One

I used the Klasse All-In-One on my dad's car when I detailed it. (I am a beginner by the way, I have a lot to learn.) It came out OK considering I don't have much experience yet. I have not used my NXT Wax yet.

This weekend I will need to detail my car which just received a new paint job approximately 2 months ago. I live in Canada and we have very harsh winters here so I need to protect my new paint the best way possible.

I have been browsing the forum and I have seen a lot of great results with the NXT Wax. However, I also read a post regarding its durability which stated that it is not that durable. This is the main thing I am concerned with since my car will need to be driven during very bad winter weather.

In all honesty, which wax do you think I should use?

    Thanks.

    Hi 96Lude,

    Welcome to Meguiar's Online!

The Klasse All-In-One is what's called a cleaner/wax, that is it's part cleaner and part protection ingredients. Most people tend to use this product as a paint cleaner in preparation for an application of another wax or paint protection product usually one that contains no cleaners.

The issue on NXT Tech Wax's durability is more of an issue of the appearance level or appearance results falling off not the protection left on the surface. This visual fall off in part has to do with the fact that NXT Tech Wax will tend to create a higher level of beauty than most waxes, (gloss, clarity, reflectivity, richness of color etc.), and thus has farther to fall compared to a wax that doesn't bring the finish results up to a very high standard.

In your situation, you might consider using the Klasse All-In-One fist to clean and prep the paint, and then follow this with an application of the NXT Tech Wax as your topper.

The most important thing to remember is that wax is a sacrificial barrier coating that's supposed to wear off as it takes the brunt of any wear and tear instead of your paint. As it wears off the idea being that you replace it with another application.

Because wax, or a paint protectant by any other name, wears off at different rates depending upon how the vehicle is treated, or the environment it is exposed to, there is no such thing as a standard answer as to how long a wax will last.

When it comes to exposure to winter weather and everything that entails, it's better to re-apply wax as often as needed, or as often as you can to insure their is a barrier coating of wax on the surface to protect the paint.

I can not speak for Klasse All-In-One.... as for NXT I have had nothing but good luck with it! You may loose [i]some[i] of the initial shine but the protection is there.

      Edit: I like Mikes suggestion:

In your situation, you might consider using the Klasse All-In-One fist to clean and prep the paint, and then follow this with an application of the NXT Tech Wax as your topper.

Klasse AIO has more cleaning action. BTW, it is very good at removing waterspots. NXT will provide a better look, with more gloss and clarity. Using NXT as a topper over AIO is a great idea.

Get some NXT Speed Detailer to use after washing, and also some Spray Booster Wax to maintain the NXT look. With all the salt, etc. on the roads you will only be able to use them just after the car is washed (not instead of washing) but they will help maintain and protect the paint.

I just wanted to add that you said your car had been repainted 2 months ago. Is this past the time your painter recomended for waxing?

2 months sounds like a good amount of time to have waited, but just to verify.

And I agree that using both products will give the best results, AIO followed by Nxt.

I've used Klasse AIO for years and have used NXT for about 1 year. Both are excellent waxes and do similar things in that they have fillers, cleaners and color enhancers and such. It's possible that Klasse may last long than NXT but I've check after a few month and NXT seems to hold up well. The problem with Klasse AIO is it's not easy to apply, you have to use a moist applicator, you have to do one small section at a time and I find it a little harder to remove than NXT. With NXT I can apply wax to the entire car, wait a few minutes for it to dry and take it off, it's the easiest wax I've used. As for shine I would say both are pretty close. For more shine like on a light colored car I use #16 on top of the NXT. Also if you want more durabillity and hate to wax your car more than twice a year, consider #21, it's longer lasting, doesn't have as much of the fillers/cleaners as NXT but lasts longer. I use it on my kid's car where she parks outside and doesn't have as much time to keep it up.

I appreciate all of your replies, you've all been very helpful so far. I just had another question. When my Klasse AIO wax is finished and I need to purchase another cleaner, which Meguiar's products do you recommend? Also, when would I use a product such as #7?

The Meguiar's analog to AIO is ColorX.

My personal experience is that there are lots and lots of people who absolutely love the Klasse products. That's great. I'm not one of them. I've purchased the products several times over the past two years. I wind up giving it away in 2 and 4 oz samples to people who want to try it before buying. They all seem satisfied, so I guess it works out!

I far prefer ColorX to AIO. What I appreciate most is the ease of use. My recollection of AIO tells me that it has a bit more cleaning power than CX, but CX protection lasts a bit longer. CX is all I use on my Subaru during the summer months.

I've never used #66, but that might be a good choice if you want to tilt the balance more towards cleaning.

If all you want to do is clean then follow with NXT, Deep Crystal #1 is a good choice, I'd think. You'd use #7 in between the two. You could also use Deep Crystal #2, and I don't think you'd see a difference.

I would agree with Tom. If you want a good cleaner/wax to use in place of the Klasse AIO after you've used it up, take a look at ColorX.

It's a strong and effective cleaner/wax yet completely safe. Versatile in that it can be applied by hand or with a dual action polisher, excellent value for your money and easy to find.

I was under the impression that ColorX was meant to be used on more neglected paint finishes that lost their color richness.

                    I guess I was wrong!

I currently have a Sonus pre-wax cleaner that I will be using on my car this weekend before I apply my NXT Wax. Once I am done with the Sonus products I will most likely switch over to the Meguiar's line.
