  • Returning after several years, and we are not in Kansas anymore 😱

    Good day to all,
I have been out of commission for several years dealing with cancer which messed me up, but is behind me. I have a new Subaru Crosstrek Sport in white, and I need to replace foam pads, and product. Over the years I have forgotten more then many learn in a life time. I two bucket wash, and clay, but I need to polish, and layer a sealant but which pads do I need.

I have a porter cable 7424 which I used with great success on my very red 2006 GTI. Those pads are soiled and should be replaced, but with what. Clay and cleaner will be done by hand, and I am thing I need some polishing and finishing pads. Your help please as I need to find my inner car guy once again.

Welcome back! Congrats on the new vehicle, I have been considering a Subaru also. Our Meguiar's Soft Buff 5" D/A Foam Discs & Backing Plate would be great for a PC7424. Should make for a super smooth operation, much more than you are used to if were using our older Soft Buff 7 inch pads. You will want to get a new backing plate for use with these, however. Hope this information is helpful. Feel free to post further questions/comments.

Running with a 5” pad will be better in curved spots on the car, and compared to my old red GTI, there are a lot of them. I know that ceramic & hybrid are the latest craze, but going old school with NXT and other sealants will do just fine. I did purchase some of your hybrid ceramic and I was not overly impressed. Don’t get me wrong it did a good job, but I am a retired senior engineer that wants perfection right out of the gate. Plus, keeping my Crosstrek clean will be a good reason to get fresh air and sunshine.

what is more important then the product used is that there is a layer or two of protection between the clear coat and the elements.

        One more question if I may. I Have a Porter Cable 7424 with a speed control from 1 to 5. So do I assume that 1 = 1000 OPM, and 5 = 5000?

You would have to look that up in the manual. I believe it might be 1 = 1800 OPMs.
