Let us know how you go, or if you need any pointers. I assume you're working by hand?Originally posted by BluelineI own a silver vehicle and a black vehicle owns me. The black one demands attention, washing, detailing, waxing and an occasional dinner out at a nice restaurant. The silver one demands nothing and it looks just fine. I think the black vehicle is taking advantage of me, and the silver car is more my style. We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

Thanks for your kind words. Yeah, I will do it with hands using Meguiar's applicator pads, Meguiar's scratch X 2.0 and Meguiar's terry 100% cotton towels. Here is the photo.

I can't get your link to work. Shame because I'd like to see what you're working on.
Anyway, just be careful with the terry cloth because you could marr the surface if you press too hard and/or your paint is on the soft side. Get yourself a foam applicator pad instead.

Thanks you so much for your great article. Very informative. Recently, I have bough super shine microfibre cloth and I will use it to buff off after applying with the applicator pad as described in your article. Sorry for my link. I reattached the link again https://plus.google.com/photos/11674...02611595652289

Welcome to the club!

While I'd much rather spend these words welcoming you to your newfound rewarding hobby.. I can't help but be nervous that you said terry towels in regards to your new cars paint. Please don't use them on your new cars paint. Lol.

After removing the scratch, I applied Meguiar's ultimate quick wax and now, I am planning to wash once a month (proper wash). In between monthly-washes, I plan to use Meguiar's wash and wax anywhere spray to remove any dirt or bird pool. Am i on right track?
Let me also ask a couple more questions:
1) Will monthly wash remove the wax I have applied?
2) Do I need to wax every time I wash my car on monthly basis?
3) What should be the minimum and maximum frequency of washing and waxing for the new car? In fact, my car is in the garage most of the time - in the totally covered garage during the night time and under the roof without walls during the day time.
4) After washing with "wash & wax" bottle, I dried my car and applied wax. Do I need to polish between washing and waxing? Honestly speaking, I am confused what the polishing is for.
Thank you so much in advance,
Best Regards,

Re: I'm new & starting to become a fan of Meguiar's products.
Well to start off there is a difference between a coating, a sealant and a wax. A wax is what we have come to know as carnauba. These products are considered natural. They offer protection and give the paint that warm glow. Technology advanced and synthetic waxes (aka sealants) came along. These are man made. They offer longer protection than a wax. They impart a different look to the paint. Some sealants look as good as a carnauba and some sealants give a more candy coated look. In recent years, coatings have come along. These are often made of SiO2 (glass) or ceramic. A coating will outlast both a wax and sealant. They will also offer better protection against the elements. The life of a wax is typically 1-3 months. For a sealant it's typically 4-5 months and for a coating it varies but it is years(about 2-3 for most I have seen).
Examples of Meguiar's carnauba waxes are gold class and M26. An example of a sealant are NXT, ultimate wax and paint protect 365. Paint Protect is currently the longest lasting product. Offering a year of protection. Meguiar's doesn't currently offer a coating but hopefully they do in the future.
Spray waxes are referred to as maintenance products. They offer protection but nowhere near as long as a stand alone product. An example of a spray wax is ultimate quik wax. It is used to maintain the "wax" on the car by rejuvenating it by acting as a booster. Ultimate quik wax is a great spray wax and it's pretty durable.
Rinseless washes and waterless washes have become very popular. They are used to wash the car instead of the traditional 2 bucket wash. They are great for those that are in water conservation areas or areas where there is no access to a hose. Ultimate wash & wax anywhere is a waterless wash. It will clean the car and it will also leave a little wax behind. This wax will not outlast a stand alone wax. But it will give you that freshly waxed look.
I will do my best to answer your questions
1) Will monthly wash remove the wax I have applied? Yes and no. A wax or sealant will degrade over time. Washing will also remove them over time. It will not remove it after one wash. It really depends on the environment as that play a large role in how long a wax or sealant lasts.
2) Do I need to wax every time I wash my car on monthly basis? This is completely up to you. Maintenance is a beautiful thing. This is where a spray wax comes into play. You can use a spray wax after a wash or every other wash. You can also use it as a drying aid after each wash. You will leave a layer of protection behind doing that. You use them until you are ready to reapply a more durable product.
3) What should be the minimum and maximum frequency of washing and waxing for the new car? In fact, my car is in the garage most of the time - in the totally covered garage during the night time and under the roof without walls during the day time. It is recommended to wash weekly. Again this is all up the owner. Waxing is a little different as it comes down to the environment once again.
4) After washing with "wash & wax" bottle, I dried my car and applied wax. Do I need to polish between washing and waxing? Honestly speaking, I am confused what the polishing is for. Polishing is used to amp up the gloss of the paint. It can also correct moderate to minor defects (swirls, scratches). This is completely optional. Defect removal varies if doing it by hand versus by machine. If you are satisfied with the look of your car you can just wax. But be sure to clay at least once a year. The baggie test is a great way to determine if claying is needed. Google that for more info. If you are referring to using ultimate quik wax after ultimate wash & wax then yes you can do that. Ultimate wash & wax leaves behind a little wax to give that freshly waxed look. It is not intended to be a durable wax.
Are you looking for long term protection? Are you doing things by hand or by machine? What is your end goal?

The reason I ask the frequency is that I simply would like to avoid both overdoing and underdoing. Hence, with one week interval as maximum and one month interval as minimum, I will wash my car in future. I will also clay the car once a year as you suggest.
Ausi market does not have paint protect 365 and so I can use only two sealants: either ultimate spray wax or NXT generation tech wax (http://www.meguiars.com.au/polish-pr...ax-2-0-liquid/). Do you mean NXT wax is better than ultimate quick wax? I am using ultimate quick wax for the moment. If NXT is a better option, I will need to change to NXT in future I guess.
