Hi, im new to the detailing world and would like to get some tips on how to properly maintain my paint. I have a black nissan versa which is almost impossible to keep it 100% clean. I clean my car once week. Ill be posting a new thread cause i think i damaged the paint on my car when trying to remove some swirl marks i think i used a very abrassive product. Anyways, i hope canlearn a lot about detailing. Have all a merry christmas!

How do you apply your products? Hand, orbital, DA, rotory?

Thanks for the links. Ill check them out. I usually use an orbital buffer to apply my products. I had used just waxes and quick detailers up to this point. Just tried to remove some swirl marks on my car last week and i thought polishers could be let to dry just like waxes and i think that messed up my paint

No don't sweat it valferca you haven't messed your paint up. I always found that it helped if I had any product dry on me and it was hard to just wipe off instead of rubbing more or harder which just introduces more scratches into your paint, I would just grab the same product and apply a little to a foam applicator pad and wipe over said spot with fresh product a time or two and then just wipe away with a micro-fiber towel.

Now as for your orbital which one do you have and is it a 6'' or 10''? When I first started polishing back in the late 90's I didn't know anything about doing this and I quess you could say I had a bunch of trail and error's and I started out with a 10'' orbital and just learned what to do and not to do. But kept after it and reread meguiars instructions until I had them memorized word for word! The key to getting a little more from the orbital until you can get you a G110 or a porter cable 7424 is to get you the foam bonnets to use with the cleaning steps, The only way that your going to do any good with these orbitals!!! Now you will run into harder clears and the orbital isn't going to make a dent into these but I think there far and between, that's why it's important to do a test spot. Because if you can make your test spot area (no more then a 12''X 12'' area) then you can make the rest of the car look good and you will already have your game plan out instead of wasting time.

Very helpful information Nicholas. You have no idea how confused I was about the difference between all these types of tools.
Tomorrow will be my first time claying and polishing the car. Hopefully I can correct most of the defects from the paint

I got myself the g110v2 last week. Tomorrow will be my first time using it. You are right about the regular orbitals. Its almost impossible to make paint corrections with them. I'll keep my orbital just wax application i guess
