new Sears Crafsman buffer

hubby just purchased a Sears 7in model #10721 orbiter/ buffer....I bought the Maguiars Ultimate compound for some minor blemishes - mainly water spots and a couple of scratches, my question is .....will this machine do the job, and if so....which bonnet shall I use? any info will be greatly appreciated.

Its not really ideal... but the newer products like UC have a better chance of working with it than the older products did.

Not sure what bonnets you have to pick from... maybe a smooth foam, or microfiber?

It will, eventually. You should get Meg's new Water Spot Remover, worked better then 105 for me on some of the worst WP's I've ever worked on

just opened box, seems like the only bonnets they have is a blue applicator bonnet and a white terrycloth bonnet...both seem a lil flimsy.

the machine you have is really only good for applying wax.
When I said "eventually" it would work. I meant it will take you a long time to do any paint corrections with a "wax applicator".
I'd return that and invest in a DA.
Your vehicle is huge and no flimsy machine will produce the results your looking for.
it's kind like cutting a lawn with clippers, it will work but a mower will work better and faster.

thanx guys for the advice...I will look at getting the Meg. Spot Remover, then maybe do some research on a DA.

do you guys have any suggestions for a DA? I will need it for buffing, polishing and basic waxing, also something that my 16 year old will be able to operate.

You could go with the meguiars G100V2 or the porter cable 7424xp. Both are good machines. You could also go with the harbor freight DA. They go for about $55.

Our G110v2 DA buffer will easily get rid of swirls and other common paint defects, and it's so easy to learn and use that your husband and son will be fighting over who gets to use it. Read through this article for information on how to use it. The big difference between this and a high speed rotary buffer is that it's almost impossible to damage your paint with a DA but with a rotary, well, unless you are highly skilled with one we don't recommend it for weekend warriors. We teach people how to use the DA in our Saturday Detailing Classes here in Irvine, CA and we do it on one of the student's cars. We've never had anyone cause any sort of damage in these classes, and in most cases everyone is a first time user. They really are great tools, easy to learn, highly effective, and incredibly safe.
