Hello everyone; I've been lurking on this forum for close to a year now and have now finally become an official member. It has been a long and twisted 9 - year journey from a totally inexperienced car detailing noob to where I am now. When I bought my car in 2002 it was newly restored and truly in show car condition. I didn't put it on the road until 2004 because I wanted to pay it off first so I could have it appraised and insured for its true value.
When I took it to its first car show I saw everybody using Quik Detailer; my first exposure to any detailing product. Up to that point my car had been washed and polished ( Deep Crystal Car Wash & NuCar Finish ) once each year I owned it because all I had done with it up to that point was drive it around the yard once a week between May and November and stored it each winter.
I borrowed one of my new car show friend's Quik Detailer and became an instant fan. Shortly thereafter I bought myself some and tried out Next Generation TechWax; and really liked how deep and reflective it made my paint.
I started to go to a lot of car shows, and my car was receiving trophies at a lot of them.
It was about that time I noticed my car had scratches on the front passenger side fender an area about 6".

I also noticed I was getting some rather severe swirls on the trunklid.
I knew I hadn't caused the scratches; I was always very careful around my car. The only thing I could think of how they got there was someone at one of these shows mad that my car won a trophy and theirs didn't.
I knew I had caused the swirls though through inexperience.
The scratches weren't deep enough to catch a fingernail, but no matter what scratch removal product I tried they would not go away. I wasn't having any luck removing the swirls either.
I started resorting to parking my car at shows where you could park wherever you wanted to according to the path of the sun; trying to position it in such a way that the front fender with the scratches would be out of direct sunlight for the entire show.
I also started using Mothers Sealer Glaze because it said on the bottle " Fills and hides scratches and swirls".
To that end I also started using Turtle Wax Ice products because they were heavily promoted to do that.
And when the Black Box product came out I started using that.
All the while I was still trying every scratch and swirl removing product that would come out with no luck; including ScratchRx and SwirlX.
Then last summer I tried Ultimate Compound. It completely wiped out the swirls on the trunklid; and got rid of about half of the scratches on the front fender.
So then I found this forum and started learning all about all the other Meguiar products.
It was fall at this point and I had put my car away for the winter.
I discovered the pro line product M105; and I figured since I had some success with UC; this stuff should definitely get rid of the rest of the scratches. I bought some and started patiently waiting for Spring.
Then I found out about M101; and when I saw the video duel between it and M105 that was it - I had to get it.
I also got the DA Polisher for the M101. Let me tell you Spring could not come fast enough.
My car has been out of storage a couple weeks now and last Friday was the day I set aside to rid my car of what has been causing me a headache for the last 9 years.
First I tried using UP to see if using it with the DA Polisher would obliterate the remaining scratches; but they would not budge. I was using the burgundy pad btw.
So then I got out the big gun; I went straight for M101. How did it work? The scratches are gone.
And so is all the Turtle Wax products. I now use Gold Class Liquid Wax, GCQD; and GCQW.
After I concluded some jealous jerk caused the scratches in the first place I never left my car unattended at a show for a moment; if I did have to get out of eyesight one of my buddies would watch it for me. Lo and behold it never got another "mysterious" scratch.
And as far as what car I have, my screen name should give you a big clue. Check out the Show Off Your Latest Detail Work section.
