  • Protecting your paint in high heat climates

Hello, My name is Richie. I am 65 years old, and am a semi retired Maintenance Engineer who worked in refrigeration and air conditioning maintenance for 47 years. I own a 2011 Ford F 250, 4 WD Heavy Duty, 4 door cab truck with 6.7 Liter Scorpion Diesel, and my baby which is a 2003, Sonic Blue Ford Lightning. I have tried many brands of car care products, some quite expensive, and settled on Meguiar's exclusively. Nothing else goes on my vehicles, especially my Lightning, but Meguiars products. If they don't make it, then I don't need it. I am a very organized person, and maintain two Rubbermaid plastic work carts, one with just car washing and cleaning tools & products, the other, only tools & products for claying, polishing and waxing. I find this to be an excellent way to utilize my equipment, and keep track of anything that needs replenishing. I hope to not only continue to get info from this forum, but also help other members with any advice, or experience that might prove useful. I feel that a persons vehicle is an extension of them, and is indicative of their personality.

Glad to hear from you, Richie. Your introduction stating you are very organized is bang on. Your last sentence caught my eye. My son and I are 180 derees out of synch. I'm the neat one. His car is a mess. Maybe it's better if one pays for it himself. One might think more of it.
You can't go wrong with Meguires' products. I've read a lot of threads in the last two years where people rave about this wax and that wax. Some of them are very expensive. I tend to believe that much of the shine is really in the eye of the beholder. The most expensive wax I ever bought was Megs' Gold Class. $19.00 Cdn.

Thanks Bill. I have been a member since 2009 but now that I am retired I can spend more time on my vehicles and gathering info as well as sharing my vehicle care experiences with other enthusiasts. Great forum.

I agree Joe. I own eight of the Rubbermaid carts and they are great to stay organized. I just roll the appropriate cart to the vehicle and dig in Good therapy for an old hot rodder. Thanks for the reply.

I have owned three Lightnings in the past years. 2002 in white, 2004 in black and now 2003 in sonic blue. I really enjoyed all three, as they were all different performance levels. My black one, which I sold about 6 weeks was a beast with numerous upgrades. It ran 16 lbs of boost, performance chip, magnaflow exhaust, etc. It would "wiggle its butt" at 25 mph when floored, and roar to 150+ top end. I took the young man who bought it on a test drive, and when it shifted from 3rd to overdrive at about 130 mph and pressed him back into his seat, he could not get to the band quick enough to get his money. It was difficult to keep three trucks clean and shiny in the summer, especially the black one. Pollen is hell in South Louisiana in summertime.
