  • New and already have?

Ready to get rid of winter junk on my truck. Here is my thought.

    Wash
    Clay
Colorx Color on truck is not bad but like how color x makes it brighter.
    Polish
    Wax

Is this a little overkill? Should I be doing something different?

If you are going to use ColorX, you would just go straight to wax.

If you want to use a pure polish, you would use something like SwrilX or Ult. Compound first.

I had great success with IronX from CarPro on my wheels. I would expect the TarX to also be good, or the Trix, which combines both products, if you needed something like that.

Are you working by hand or with a buffer of some sort? If by hand then a dedicated pure polish may help to temporarily hide some very fine swirls that ColorX doesn't remove, but if you're working with a buffer then you'll probably get a bit better result overall out of ColorX, making a pure polish a bit redundant. Further, if you're going to use a wax like NXT Tech Wax 2.0 or Gold Class Carnauba Plus, both of which are polish/waxes, then a pure polish is even more redundant.

      Oh, and welcome to MOL!!

        Thanks

I will skip Color x. I do everything by hand.

If you skip the ColorX, and only use a pure polish, you wont have any sort of cleaning product, if you think there is some dirt/grime to remove from the paint.

dodge2000, it seems you may have misread our post - if you're going to skip anything it's the polish, not the ColorX, as it's the pure polish that becomes redundant with the use of an AIO like ColorX and a polish/wax like NXT, GC, Ultimate.

              Sorry

              So lets try this way.
              Wash
              Clay
              Color x
              Gold class paste wax

              Thanks

Yes, that would be a good quick detail.

What would a good detail be?

                    Re: New and already have?

Well, it would just be going to a "full" detail:

                    1. Wash
                    2. Clay
                    3. Clean - Ult. Polish, SwirlX, or Ult. Compound as needed
                    4. Polish - Optional Pure Polish
                    5. Wax
                    6. Wax

So, it is more steps, bit more ability for defect removal, can be a bit better of a result. But more time/effort.

Neither one is good or bad, just different.
